Topic: RE: Liquid stage and dumping?
Good evening everyone,
I recently had surgery (rny), I'm still in the liquid stage. Although I'm struggling with In taking enough protein . However my concern is at times i get nausea and sick to my stomach and it's followed up with a visit to the restroom . Similar to dumping. However at this stage is this common? When all I'm drinking is protein shakes, soup, gateraid zero and crystal light? I appreciate any inside insight.
Thank you,
Marcia

Topic: RE: New Here...Looking for some Support
Kathleen,
Everyone recovers in there own speed. But there is an average of 3 to 4 weeks off, depending on what kind of surgery is done. Just try to allow your self time to heal. I see it all the time, People think they will be ready in one week... Then you hear them say "What the heck was I thinking". lol.
Here on OH you will have plenty of support. I'm very excited for you and the new journey your going to en bark on. CONGRATS!!!

Topic: RE: WHY ???
What will happen if you don't? Does your quality of life improve? The surgery is not for everyone. Sometimes diet and exercise is the way to go. Those things do happen at times, but that comes with it...But if you want it, Know you have the support on here!!

Topic: RE: Question about an incision?
I agree. Although your wounds on the exterior have health keep in mind that adipose tissue take months to heal, so sometimes itching may indicate healing. But if the site becomes elevated swollen, and warm to the touch, is a indication of an infection. Our nails contain SO MUCH bacteria, and you may end up scratching at night, introducing bacteria or staph to your post op wound.! So putting a Hydrocortisone Anti-itch cream wouldn't be a bad idea. BUT if your wound has been exposed in any manner, please do not put it on.

Topic: RE: How much sleep and its importance...
Individuals vary greatly in their need for sleep; there are no established criteria to determine exactly how much sleep a person needs. Eight hours or more may be necessary for some people, while others may consider this to be too much sleep.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that most average adults need about 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Newborn babies, by contrast, sleep from 16 to 18 hours a day. Preschool-aged children typically sleep between 10 and 12 hours a day. Older, school-aged children and teens need at least 9 hours of sleep a night. Women in the first trimester of pregnancy have been observed to need a few more hours' sleep than is usual for them.
It is very important for individuals who have had WLS to get the appropriate amount of sleep on a daily basses. Lack of sleep, has been associated with weight gain. Which in my opinion defeats the purpose. Sleep is essential for a person's health and wellbeing. If you're tired, your most likely not going to follow your workout regimen or in some cases possibly resort to some comfort food.
So everyone out there on OH, get some sleep!
