I know...I didn't know about his lack of chivalrousness until we were out walking. I also don't expect someone to open the door for me, but I also do it for others (men and women) and I can't think of anyone I know who feels SO strongly that if women want equality then they don't deserve a single door-opening lol. Thanks for the positivity - I plan to wait for a prince...I think I am a catch so I'd rather be single than with someone who doesn't treat me well :)

Thanks, Kim! I appreciate the vote of confidence and agree, talking about surgery on a first date is weird. I would be weirded out if a man I was on a date with was talking about surgeries on a first date! Good to also know you found a prince :)
And AMEN that equality is not about doors and sidewalks. It was kind of surreal. On to the next one! (eventually)

OMG if I were at home with four little kids AND my mom, I think I would eat 24 cupcakes ;) Ha ha in all seriousness, it sounds like a handful. I bet you get a lot of steps in! Do you wear a FitBit? I bet you are running all over the place. LOL @dolly's heck of a birthday!
I made a protein shake with unsweetened almond milk, vanilla powder, and 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries. It was pretty decent! Enjoy your dinner - both options sound awesome!

Hey Ceithlenn! I was TOTALLY thinking of you in my 25 minute training session. I think you do hour long sessions and I was like HOWWWWW DOES SHE DO IT? I know it will get easier (or I hope?). You are moving south from WI? Where are you moving? Somewhere warmer I assume :) 90 g of protein is amazing. I seem to end up around 70 usually. I have to do better. I guess two protein shakes a day would do it. I just prefer food. But I can suck it up and do shakes! I hope your weather gets better - I know you had snow, snow, snow and then sleet and then rain and winds...we even have a tornado advisory in DC today. Crazy ass weather!

Hey Debb! Thanks for being so positive! Didn't meet Prince Charming at the gym, but my workout was intense and awesome! I feel great. One bad date, some brussels sprouts foamies, and no jeans...I can deal :) I will perservere for sure. Your menu looks delish! What kind of turkey jerky do you eat?

It sounds like a good day, and your menu sounds delicious! I am working from home today so I am skipping the coffee. I ordered some of the free Quest bars through a link someone posted a couple of weeks ago. I haven't tried them yet, but I am curious about them. They have too many carbs for me, so I won't make it a habit, but in case of emergency, might as well have them on hand!

Congrats on joining the gym! I hope you can go when your husband gets home, and that your daughter feels better. I don't have a hubby but for sure a person with a "normal" stomach cannot begin to know how it feels to have our pouch :) I mean, I ate less than 1/4 of a turkey burger and a few bites of brussels sprouts and got the foamies. Is that normal? NO! LOL
Aren't bridesmaid dresses the WORST? One dress cannot look good on all body types. A friend of mine is in an upcoming wedding and the bride has gone insanely bridezilla. She mandated that people wear black or purple...to her BACHELORETTE party. Whaaat????

I love dinner foods even for breakfast :) I switched my protein shake to a strawberry shake after I read this. Yum! Thanks :)

I think it can be hit or miss. The issue is if you are size 24 (like I was when I was online), you tend to attract men who like girls that size. I dated quite a few men at that size. I never got any horrible comments - I think you either are someone's cup of tea or not.
The man who loves a "thick" girl may not be the best support as you are working out, eating small meals, not drinking, etc.
I really think my best bet is to keep focusing on myself and my health, and once I am fitter, dating someone who is fit or working towards it so we have similar values and lifestyles. Or at least someone who is supportive of me shrinking :)
I have always been confident, even at my biggest, and now for some reason having just made it under 300 (297) I am like super uber confident. I think men pick up on that, so definitely feel great about yourself before you put yourself out there. Remember - looks are important (for that initial attraction) but are not everything by any means, so keep in mind everything you bring to the table (being a nice person, an empathetic person, goal-driven, loving, etc).
You and I can commiserate about online dating once I get back out there in a few months too :) (yesterday's date was via a friend of a friend who just moved here)

Thanks Debb! I agree, I will take the new ideas and make sure to plan dates accordingly. Is it sad that at 36, I don't know how to date without dates being centered around alcohol and food? Duhhhh...time to switch that up!
I can't even go on a date for a while because all of my jeans are HUGE and I ordered some from Old Navy online and clearly overestimated how small of a size I would need. So now I have jeans that fall down while buttoned and jeans that are as tight as spanx! HA HA HA

Thank you - that is so kind of you to say :) I was always a party girl too (alcohol + bar food + late night pizza...hmmm wonder how I ended up obese? LOL) so this new life is an adjustment. I love it, I love feeling good, I love eating well, I just had an awesome personal training session...but maybe I need to wait until I am fitter and then date people who are also into fitness and don't make me feel like a freak for not having alcohol :) I was happy about the 10,000 steps! I promise to keep my positivity! One bad date is nothing to get down about, for sure.

Kelly NOOOOO! He did NOT show up without his false teeth??? Wow. I would have definitely RESCHEDULED!

Yeah, I definitely don't mind telling about my surgery and eventually it will come up, but a first date is kind of early for me (in my mind) to talk about exes, surgeries, etc. Keep it light and see if there is a connection :) I like the Starbucks idea. I am going to make sure to do that. Thanks to you and Kelly for the idea!

I never thought how he may take the comments about me not drinking - thanks for pointing out. I certainly didn't intend to tell him that drinking is bad, in fact I told him how much I miss it lol. I did not call him out for not opening the door, the topic just came up about how certain men walk on the street side when they are with a woman, or open doors for women, and he was very adamant that men do not need to do anything chivalrous for women since we want equality.

All good ideas, Kelly! I have always met someone for a drink for a first date, but clearly I have to change that. And there is no smoking allowed in bars and while I wouldn't discriminate against smokers, I don't seek them out. I have never heard of someone saying "I would not date someone who doesn't drink!". But there's a first time for everything :)

You do start to see who are the "food pushers" in your life, right? LOL
And yes, at least I got my steps in!!! The only good part of the date! HA!

Congratulations!!! I had that same goal on Monday :) The scale said 299.8 LOL! I was like, "good-bye, weight starting with a 3, FOREVER!". So I know how good you feel! We are doing awesome!!!!

You didn't just lose weight, you lost 20 years!!! WOW you look awesome! Congratulations, and thanks for showing us newbies that if you work hard, you can maintain. I'm so impressed.

Just when I think I have the stoma of steel, I get the foamies ;) Not a great start to the day, and my menu is somewhat uninspiring, so inspire me!
Time Since Surgery: 9 weeks, 5 days
B: 1/4 of a turkey burger, one small slice of avocado, 1/8 cup of brussels sprouts (not sure if I ate too fast but ugh, foamies)
L: 2 oz chunk light tuna with light mayo, 2 cheese crisps
S: Premier Protein protein drink
D: TBD
E: I have my first personal training session today!!!!! AGGHHH!
Without dinner, I am at 411 calories, 60 g of protein, 17 g of fat, 12 g of carbs.
W: Gotta get going on it
V: So far, so good
What are you eating today?

Hi OH Friends,
Last night, at nearly 10 weeks post-op, I had my first first date (my bf and I broke up right after surgery).
Granted, the guy wasn't the best person (for example, we had an argument about if men should open doors for women and his stance was "you all want equality, so why should I open the door" while my stance was "we would like equal pay for the same job done, but you are still welcome to be chivalrous"). But when I showed up for the date, he was halfway through a beer. In my previous life I would have ordered a drink. However, obviously I have cut out alcohol. So the waitress asked me for my order, and I said, "I am ok with water right now". When she left, I said to my date, "I'm not drinking right now. I've been working out and really watching my calories, and drinking is just really empty calories". His response, "I could NEVER date someone who doesn't drink!". Ummm, okkkkk...
Then he was hungry so he ordered a Greek appetizer plate. He pressured me to have some so I had two bites of hummus, three slices of cucumber, and maybe four small olives. He ate all of the pita bread squares and the rest of the food.
I felt a bit like a freak! I have been very open with family/friends/colleagues about my surgery, but I am not telling someone on a first date about it. How have any of you coped with going on a date, NOT drinking, and then eating like a mouse?
And yes, I know if he were a good guy he wouldn't have made me feel like a freak, and obviously I am not going to see him again. But I guess I don't know what dating is like without alcohol. Isn't that terrible? LOL
Em
P.S. Oh, and the only positive is that after we left the bar we ended up walking around the city for a bit (since he is new to DC) and I made my 10,000 steps! Woot!

Lol @normal doesn't mean in shape!!! Awesome that you powered through a tough hour long class. About a month ago I did a Body Pump class and OMG. I was sore for three days!

Wow!! Good for you sticking to 1000ish calories before surgery. It's so much easier after surgery (though it still requires effort) but I advocate you lose as much as you can pre-op which will make your surgery go well, your recovery go well, etc. you're so close! How exciting to be able to do this with your husband. You'll be gassy together ;) So glad this is helpful for you!!

I end up eating out quite a bit and I see it as a fun challenge. I mean, it's like "how many meals can I get for $20!" Lol. My turkey burger last night is stretched to 3 meals, some restaurant meals turn into four meals :) then I can rationalize spending money elsewhere hahaha! That's awesome that you didn't bat an eye!

Happy birthday!!! Impressed that you did training and cardio and avoided that seriously tempting potluck. Ugh I see the food at our office and wonder why every single person isn't obese. Our kitchen is like the graveyard for terrible snacks. I have to say I'm feeling so good I'm not even tempted yet. Kudos to you!!!

Thanks for sharing! For sure, cut and paste :)
I am from Michigan too and I haven't heard Meier in forever! Awwwww...memories! We don't have Meier in the DC area. I think it's a Michigan chain.
