Topic: RE: Will you be my FitBit Friend?

I know myself, and a little competition will definitely help keep me motivated!

I'm only 3.5 weeks out, so my fitness routine has not ramped up to what it was presurgery, but I'm getting ready to get back in the swing of it. My aim is to move from 6000 steps a day up to 10,000 by my 5 week date.

Send me a PM with your email and I'll add you!

I agree with everyone who says to experiment with temperature. When I came home I needed everything icy cold in order to get my water down. Suddenly last week, I can no longer tolerate cold--has to be warm or room temp. Go figure.

Hope you start feeling better soon. It's seems impossible, but as hard as drinking is, it's what will keep you feeling well.

SO glad to hear you are okay. You'll never be so happy to drink another protein shake, right!?!

Hi Karen, it can be done. Search for 'vegetarian' in the search bar and you'll see how others have done it. But I also recommend that you bring this to your nutritionist and ask him/her to make you a sample menu with these restrictions. That is what they are being paid for!

Ugh, it's really setting in that I will have to back to work on Monday. I feel like I am mourning, already...

But on the plus side I am feeling better than I have for the last few days. No GERD this morning! But I will stick with the full liquids, nonetheless, just in case.

B- 1/2 c 2% Cottage Cheese

L- 8oz Soy Milk and Chocolate Unjury Protein Powder

D- 8oz Soy Milk and Click Mocha Protein Powder

Snack- 1/4 c Ricotta, puréed with blueberries and Torani syrup

Interesting! I get my Soy Milk at Trader Joe's and I never noticed a plain option. I'll head to the regular grocery store. Thanks!!!

Yessssss...that is how I keep myself on the elliptical, too! It's such a good strategy.

I have wooded conservation land down the street, and yesterday I decided to go for a nice long walk with a friend. About 1/2 mile in, she was swatting Mosquitos away, getting bitten, and feeling miserable.

I literally was not bitten once--I presume, because I have zero sugar in my system. I'm usually covered in welts from bites, but I guess I'm not so sweet, anymore!

Captain Crunch? Haha, that's a blast from the past!!

I am still back on the full liquids. Noticing that my carbs are much higher from the soy milk and protein powder than they were when I was on puréed food (mostly meats). Interesting, because I was in a stall my last week of full liquids, but then it started dropping right away when I moved on to the next stage.

Hmm, will be interesting to see if I stall again, now that I am back to liquids... Any suggestions for a lower carb liquid diet?

Anyway, today's plan is:

B- Vanilla Soy Milk and Matrix PB Protein

L- Kale, Blueberry, and Cherry "NutriBlast" with Unflavored Unjury

D- Vanilla Soy Milk and Chocolate Unjury and Caramel Torani Syrup

Snack- 1/2 c plain Greek Yogurt with Everything Bagel Seasoning Mix

Snack- 1/2 c 2% Cottage Cheese blended with Green Onions

Calories: 588

Protein: 78

Fat: 8

Carbs: 53

She wants me off for 6 months! I don't think I'll make it that long, but I do want to stay off while I am so desperate to stay hydrated.

I've had 2 separate but similar dreams about finding a way to get a hot cup of coffee. It's the only thing I miss, at this point...but BOY do I miss it!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure some of it was my fault. I was starving by the time I ate--we went to a play and were supposed to eat before, but traffic was awful and we didn't have time. I had only had a few bites of scrambled egg and cottage cheese by 5:30pm, so when we sat down to eat, even though I thought I was being careful, I probably swallowed too quickly...

Good call--Doc did tell me to take the anti-nausea meds again for the next three days, whether I feel like I need them or not.

I already feel better being back on liquids today. I actually like the shakes I make at home, myself, so I'm okay with it :)

Yeah, I had the same idea, so I went to Rite Aid this morning and checked it with the blood pressure machine. BP was nice and low, but HR was 98.

Thanks. This is actually a new problem since surgery. I work out regularly, and never see elevated numbers like that--even during intense work outs, so it freaks me out to see them so high on a quiet walk in the woods!

Thanks, but I'm concerned because, while I know I'm not in great shape, I'm also not in bad shape, either. i work out 30-60 minutes a day with either walking, jogging, or elliptical, and have for several years. I have always checked my HR on the elliptical and it's never spiked up super high--usually around 110 during a moderate workout. The high rate has just been since surgery... I'm calling in a few hours, and hopefully will get some idea why.

Thanks. Hard to imagine that I could be dehydrated--I'm getting in the recommended fluids. But I think I am going to do a day of all shakes today and see if there is a difference.

Today I am three weeks post-op revision. Until this weekend I was doing great, but then suddenly hit a rough patch--got nauseous, then started throwing up on soft shredded lobster last night...dammit. I had not thrown up in 3 weeks, and didn't miss that feeling! I was SO hoping that post-band, I'd give up vomiting, forever...

So due to this unforeseen complication, I return to full liquids this week...

B- 8oz soy milk, 1/2 scoop Click Mocha protein and 1/2 scoop Unjury Chocolate protein.

L- 8oz soy milk and 1 scoop Matrix Peanut Butter

D- Strawberry Unjury mixed with 8oz Lemonade Crystal Light

Snack- 1/2c plain Greek yogurt

Snack- 1/4c ricotta with cinnamon

total calories: 634

total protein: 83

total fat: 8g

Topic: RE: How am I going to feel?

You can't even imagine the difference between how pre-op and post-op eating patterns change.

I have had to set up reminders on my smartphone to remind me to eat. I feel like it goes off 1000 times a day and everytime, I groan and wail that I have to shove something else in my mouth, again

So I'm still grumpy, but for different reasons! Haha.

Topic: RE: Failed, Terrified and Bewildered

I'm going to come down somewhere in the middle on this one.

Should you be "terrified"?--hell yes! That was a dangerous game of roulette you played and you are very lucky it didn't result in complications. At his point if you really feel the need to cheat, your options still need to be limited to soft things. Not that I am recommending it, but you need to know your limitations...

But should you feel "failed" and "bewildered"?--no way. Beating yourself up is entirely useless, and likely to steer you towards the next bad decision. Learn from it, move on, and use it as your personal "lesson I learned" anecdote you will tell newbies on this site, when you are an experienced vet.

My last advice is to get creative with flavors. If something savory smells amazing, look through your spice rack and figure out a way to get a flavor into something "approved". Think of Cottage cheese, plain Greek yogurt, and ricotta as bases that can be anything. You are much better off adding some dry ranch dressing mix to cottage cheese on day 4 than you will be eating bread! Use the time you have off to get creative and motivated!

Topic: RE: Pouch capacity first week post op?

I was supposed to be having 8oz shakes at that point but it would take hours to get them down. Anything thicker, like yogurt, ricotta or cottage cheese, I'd have at 1/4-1/2c. I never tried cream of wheat or anything like that...
