I have had really bad reactions to the meds. They make me very lightheaded and woozy--not to mention nauseous. In the first 24 hours I didn't feel too steady on my feet, but it's passed.

I haven't gotten on a real scale, actually, but I thought the Wii Fit would be easy gentle exercise, but I forgot they weigh you before you can play. Oh well...

Ok, released from the hospital at 2pm yesterday and came home to find that after being on an IV pump for 3 days, I had GAINED 6lbs. I can see that my fingers and toes are swollen so it's obvious that it's jus****er, but, it is SO frustrating to go through all this pain and suffering to see the scale moving in the wrong direction. Seriously?
I'm not actually worried, just venting...
When did the scale start reversing directions for you?

Wow, back to work in under a week?
I feel like I'll be fine to go back in 2 weeks, if everything keeps up so well, but I plan to take all 3 weeks, just to be sure I am fully rested and that I am getting in all the shakes and water in the right timeframe--that's like a full time job, in itself!

Thanks everyone!
i had a friend come over while I showered and we went for a quick walk, too.
Im surprised by how good I feel! I remember being in much worse shape after my lapband surgery and this time it was: lapband removal, plus RNY, plus hernia repair. I was expecting to be down for the count for much longer...

Hi, any one else single and live alone after surgery? I came home from the hospital yesterday (surgery was Monday). My mom stayed for an hour and helped make sure I had everything I needed, but now I'm on my own.
So far it's been okay alone. Woke up in lots of pain but I was able to get up and get meds on my own. I reapplied bandages around the drain in the middle of the night, too. This morning I made my shake and I'm walking around the house. No problems at all.
The only thing I'm worried about is showering. I'm worried about falling! And I don't think I could manage a bath because I don't think I could get up from that position on my own.
Has anyone else done this on their own? Just wondering where you needed help, or if it was all easy to do on your own?

I set alarms on my smartphone to remind me about which vitamins to take, when. I would never remember without that support!

Yeah, I am trying to decide if making a veiled threat will help or hurt. Its out of our hands now, anyway, though, right?
Wishing you the best in both recovery and secrecy!!

Thanks @Melissa and @Navychic, but these were insurance papers to cover the short term disability/FMLA. I very specifically asked the nurse who filled them out if she had to write it in so specifically, and she said yes :(
Oh well...hopefully I am overreacting and her professionalism will kick in.

Good to know! I find her very unprofessional, but I am not sure that she would violate a real "rule".
We work in different offices so I faxed the papers without talking to her, but I guess I can call her today and remind her to shut up... ;-)

Thanks for the advice, Sherrie, but this is a pretty vicious office (you'd totally laugh if if you knew the name of the lovely non-profit I'm working for, haha), but this is not a place where I would get support. It is a place where I would be marganilized and judged harshly. I know I can handle it, but I am really not in the mood to defend my every thought and action about my health choices in an unsupportie environment.
As for the weight loss, my revision is due to all of the complications, not to weight. I am overweight, for sure, but my BMI is 33, so I only have a total of 45lbs total to lose. I don't think anyone would assume that I am eligible for an RNY.
But if she is noisy about it, I may have to tell, anyway. Not the end of the world, but not my first choice.

I am posting tonight with a major frustration...
When I had my lapband in 2009 I was working for a different company. I took 2 weeks of my own time off and didn't have to tell anyone what the surgery was for. I am having my revision surgery on Monday, and since it requires a longer time out, I am using FMLA time to comp my sick and vacation time.
All of my coworkers have seen me vomit with each meal and know I have problems swallowing so I've told them the surgery is to fix that (true, of course, but not the whole truth)...
The only concern I have is that the ONE woman who is our HR "department" is really kind of a gossip and not very trustworthy. A few months ago I went to her about an issue I was having with my supervisor and when I left she called her, immediately to tell her what I said...
Anyway, I had to hand her a stack of papers today that outined every last detail. It listed "disphagia" which is the part I have been talking about, but of course it listed everything else, including "morbid obesity" and "Gastric Bypass". There is no pretending it is anything else, now.
What are her legal responsibilities to keep this quiet? Anything? Or do I have to suck it up and know that when I come back I will be the talk of the water-cooler? I am so frustrated.

Maybe you've developed a bit of lactose intolerance? 4 out of 5 things you listed are dairy...

Congratulations on all your hard work paying off! Its great to see you looking fantastic but even better to hear that your medical issues are disappearing!

My NUT has always saidv that drinking up until a few minutes before is okay, even though most literature says no liquids 30 minutes before. But the during/after rule should be taken very seriously.
As others said, drinking can push food right through and defeat the purpose of the small pouch.
And (more unpleasently) it can also act as a "stuck drain". If your pouch is full and you add liuid to it, sometimes instead of pushing food down, it will cause the drink (and then the food) to come back up, instead. Yuck.

I hate hate hate all of the pre-made shakes, but I am a 5 star chef when it comes to making shakes at home that taste great! I start with a quality base of Unjury and add flavor to them in the form of Torrani Sugar Free syrups and Sugar Free Pudding mixes. I love my shakes! Keep experimenting and you will find some that work for you!

I am preparing for my revision and reading back over all my old journals from when I was banded in 2009. I used to stall, too, and it was so frustrating! But based on what I am reading, 99% of the time in the first few months, if I ate a little more (of the right stuff, of course), the scale would start moving!
Obviously, you need to follow your doctor's recommendations for calorie intake, but maybe a few extra sips of another protein shake wouldn't be so bad?
I agree with everyone else about the water, though! Increasing your water will solve a bunch of problems. Dehydration is your worst enemy and staying hydrated will also help keep you full :)

When I was banded, my surgeon's office did a clothing swap as part of their support group meetings. I'm 4'11", so I never was able to participate (I wear extra short, petite, everything!), but I was jealous of how it went for most people! It seemed like everyone got to walk away with something, and the clothes just kept in roation amongst the group from month to month. I wonder if you can arrange something like that through the support groups in your area?
