Topic: RE: Eating less every day, food becoming intolerable, super long!
I wonder if food will ever be an "enjoyable" experience again?  Is this the trade-off of gastric bypass surgery?  I lose weight fast,  but I can't enjoy food (even a tiny portion) again?  I've read some profiles from people 2 years out from surgery and it sounds like it does get better. I'm not talking about going back to old habits, I'm talking about being able to enjoy my scrambled eggs or my small salad or my small cup of chili someday in the future.... with regular fullness and not painful fullness. What do you guys think?

Topic: RE: head vs. stomach: Stomach wins!
I am so happy to share this little triumph with all of you.  Last night, I rented movies and my friend picked up chicken wings. Now, just a little background information: chicken wings are one of my favorite foods in the world and I'm very picky about the wings being well done and the sauce.  Before surgery, I could sit and gnaw on 10 - 20 of those while watching a movie.   So last night, there I am watching Little Miss Sunshine and staring at those wings. I took one wing, ate it slowly in small nibbles with lots of chewing. It was delicious. I started to have a second, and before I was half way through it, I felt so full. I actually sat back and thought, What??? I am full already??? It was WONDERFUL!  My stomach actually won over my head!!!  I could not eat another bite, no matter how much I might have wanted to.  So, I am thrilled with my tool and learning about what it can do for me. It is teaching me that one chicken wing can satisfy that craving just fine (and be a good source of protein).  By the way -- I woke up this morning and had lost another 2 lbs!  I am so happy I had this surgery. Thanks for listening guys.  hugs, Elaine

Topic: RE: What the heck did I just experience??
I ditto what Melissa asked.... What you describe sounds almost like a gallbladder attack. When I used to have them, the pain would radiate to my back and I would vomit.  Still, it could just be a grumpy pouch. Better keep an eye and if happens again... have your doctor check for gallstones. Elaine

Thanks to Crystal Light, I'm actually getting my water in now. My pouch doesn't like plain water for some reason, but I can sip sip sip CL all day and it is quite happy!    ... Elaine (hugs)

I've been using Liquid Tylenol. I takes about 3 sips for me to get down the adult dose (1oz), but it works really fast and takes my headaches away without disturbing my pouch. Elaine    *hugs*

Hey Kym!   I have been using EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control (chocolate fudge) and l love them (cold only). They have 17g protein, 110 calories each and only 2 net carbs.  I have been using them this week (into my 2nd week post-op) with absolutely NO problems.  As someone mentioned above, each one of us is different, so don't buy a lot of anything until you test to see how you like it and how your pouch reacts to it.  Also, your tastes change a little and something you like before you might not like after (and vice versa).  Good luck!!! Hey Claudette, I agree with Stephie ... and I trust that things happen for a reason. Doing the liquid pre-op for another two weeks may seem harsh, but it means that the tissues in your gut (and your liver retraction) will be in even better shape for surgery. I remember my surgeon felt my stomach before he looked at my chart to see if I had lost weight. He said he could tell by the way it felt, and then he looked and saw I had lost 11 lbs on the pre-op diet. He was very pleased and said it would make my surgery go even smoother. I'm not an expert on why exactly, but I trust what he said. Good luck girl... you're in my prayers.  Your surgery will be here very soon!   hugs, Elaine

Topic: RE: Energy level down at 3 months....any one else?
Hey Lura, As you probably know, there are many things that could account for your feeling tired. Sometimes our bodies just go through a little adjustment period, and sometimes it is something more serious. Sounds like you are really on top of the protein and getting in your liquids each day. When was your last check up regarding your B-12 levels and other vitamins/minerals? Elaine

Chantal....  I am so happy for you, and I can totally relate to the unexpected tears you are experiencing. I was happy and excited and didn't cry at all until my friend came to pick me up to take me to the airport. He arrived, and we sat on the couch for a few minutes. And then it hit me. For some reason, I just started crying and couldn't stop.  I'm sure it was a combination of many things that caused it... but my friend just held me and reminded me that everything would be okay and that I was going to be fine.  He was right! I am 1 week and 3 days post-op and I am more than fine --- I am soooo happy!  Everyday when I wake up now, I know that I am losing weight. I know that my new small stomach is helping me to control my eating, and that by the end of the day...the week...the month.. I will lose weight.  It is so comforting!  I am thinking of you and can't wait to read your post-op posts!!!    Hugs,  Elaine

Topic: RE: lap-rny incision bleeding
So I went looking for steri-strips, and none of the pharmacies here carry them. So I went to Urgent Care, where I didn't go in but I did talk to a doc there. He said he thinks the far right suture came out (I can see the suture line). He wanted $338 to put a stitch in  and $125 for the visit. Then he tried to scare me that I may be bleeding more on the inside (under the skin) than I am on the outside, and that I needed an ultrasound. I was like, nope - thanks! And I left without any treatment or paying him a dime. I went back to Walmart and picked up Liquid Seal from Band-Aid. I used it on that side of the incision and the bleeding stopped.  Times like these I REALLY wish I had a partner, or at least a roommate!    Elaine

Thanks Heather, fortunately, I was able to save my mattress, but I'm afraid my sheets look like a murder scene - even after my scrubbing them with Oxyclean and one cycle in the washer. I'm sad, but I"ll go ahead and order a new set. Once you've had really good sheets, its hard to go back to anything else.

I asked and my doc said "whenever you feel up to it".   So.... if you are mindful of your incision(s), go for it and badda-boom-badda-bang!!!!!!  Enjoy!   hugs, Elaine

Thanks -- I didn't know they sold Steri-strips over the counter, but I will definitely go look before going into urgent care.  And I will call Dr. Joya today.  I finally got the blood off my mattress, but the sheets are pretty bad. (Oxyclean can only do so much). Sad too because those sheets were 1000 thread count   Oh well.... I'll just be glad to get this bleeding to stop!  thanks for all the advice

One of my incisions (the puffy one under my left breast) started bleeding yesterday and hasn't stopped.  Well...it stops when i am lying down on my back, but as soon as I stand up to walk around, it starts bleeding again.  I went to bed last night hoping it would close up again, but woke up at 5:30am having ruined my bed and sheets. (any tips of getting  a huge blood stain off my mattress?)  I must have moved around in my sleep.  I live alone so no one is here to help me clean up.  I'm planning to go to the urgent care to see if they can throw a stitch in it or perhaps just put a steri-strip on it.  It doesn't open for another 3 hours. what do you guys think??? thanks, Elaine
