I agree with the post from Crystal.... February 2010, I had finally contacted my surgeon about abnormal pain where I was unable to eat or drink anything. Periodically, in the months previous to contacting him I would have episodes of food getting stuck, and/or severe gas pains (which is what I thought). I would be able to take a gas x or pain medication to sleep off the pain, and after 24 hours things would be fine.  I would watch what I would eat for the next few days following. Well, like I started this reply in February there was another episode and this time it was bad. My surgeon arranged for me to go through  the ER and they ran every single test: CT scans with and without contrast, X-Rays, tons of labs, etc... And found nothing, which is what my surgeon thought (he sent me to his hospital were he was working closely with the ER internal medicine doctor, and staff). Therefore after all the test were run, he admitted me into the hospital and did the diagnostic exploratory surgery were he had suspected my hital hernia resurfacing from the date of surgery in July 07, however, when he got in it was not a hital hernia (all the xrays, ct scans came back clear)... He repaired an internal hernia. Which could have been fatal if left untreated. If you are STILL having this problem I would get in contact with your bariatric surgeon. It is something to take serious.

Best of luck

I was reading this post. I think I have had almost every complication known to man. Now with what's described it sounds like one of two things. Yes I have had them both ;(

AS for the pain and it not getting any better except with drinking liquids could be from scar tissue around your esophagus. now with that comes acid reflux which is possibly why the pepto helps briefly. Try using tums to see if it helps a little longer. Also with that your body is not able to process the gas like normal because it gets caught in pockets. Believe it or not Gas is very very painful. If gas continues to build up it will make you bloated and sometimes not show signs on the outside and it will start in the front and move around to your back. GASX is the best thing for that. They have it in every way in case you can't handle the gel caps. Now with the scar tissue the only way for a doc to see that is a scope. I was taken to the hospital many times and went through what you did and they said nope don't see anything. Here is some meds and sent me on my way. Well it got to the point where I had to pick between liquids and solids for that day or sometimes longer. Finally I had a scope done and the tissue was removed then I was able to add food back to my daily diet.
I am 2yrs out on the 20th of this month and I still cant eat alot and still trying to gain weight. Still don't do liquids after I eat. Can't have more than 10g of sugar or I dump. Can't have fattening foods or i dump.

Now the other thing like mentioned before is an ulcer. The worse it gets the more painful it gets. If it eats through the lining it is going to be the worse pain you prob have ever gone through. Again that is only really going to be detected by a scope.

The best thing you can do is go to your doc and get a scope done. There are many things that it can be but all can usually be detected by the scope and possibly be fixed while the scope is in there.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to email me
