NEWBIES-Who's going to the OH Conference?

I would like to personally invite and encourage all the newbies-pre-op or within the first year post-op to attend the OH conference.  You will come away with some great new friends and a lot of information-PLUS some free new clothes.  OH works very hard to put on these conferences so please support them.

I recently told my co-workers about attending a dinner with "50 of my closest friends" and they were amazed that I had 50 friends, most of them only have 2-5.  Where did I meet these people?  Right here on the TMB and then in person at social functions and OH conferences.  For those of you that don't know me, I'm over 3 years out and I'm at goal.  Why do I attend the conference?  Because without the constant support from my WLS community I will FAIL because I AM A FOOD ADDICT.  I have seen over and over the past few years people that have gained weight after having surgery.  Guess what the common demoninating factor is?  LACK OF SUPPORT.  Those people have gotten away from OH and back to their "normal lives" and oops, suddenly they're UP 50 lbs.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the people you will meet at this conference "GET YOU" and will stick by you thru thick and thin (pun intended).  I promise it will be the best $$ you've ever spent.  If you need to split a hotel room with someone-post that you're looking for a roomie and hopefully someone will volunteer.

There are discount codes out there where you can attend the conference for $35 instead of $60.  PLEASE use someone from TEXAS' discount code.  They make a little money off it and that money funnels directly back into their local support group.   I know that Paige, Vivian, Sean, all local support group leaders have discounts for you to use.  So get motivated cuz I am ready to meet some new people come November....I can never have too many friends.

I LOVE the confernces - not attending as the army seems to think they need to keep moving my husband away from TX but I tell you - I have some of the BEST support from my Tx peeps - I can call or text at the crack of dawn (for me) which is even earlier there and someone will wake up - or be up - and talk to me

the conferneces are so worth it - I tell people FIND a way to go - we have used local discount codes, put 4 people in a small car, driven for hours, split a hotel room 4 ways and always always worth it!!! some of my dearest peeps are from those fun filled road trips -
Home is where the army allows me to live with my husband

I know what I need to do - I have to choose to take care of me or I choose to fail

Great Post Stephanie and so very true.    There is lots of support out there if the people in need will take advantage of it and attend.     In fact Sunny Street Support is this weekend ( Sat. 9 AM ).   Hope everyone attends a support group because trust me.....they do help majorly in keeping the weight off.   Have a blessed day and if anyone needs a promo code to get you in for $25 ( OH Conference ) I have one.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I will be there, have admission paid for and have my hotel room.  I am looking forward to meeting more people.  I was at the dinner Sat night but I tend to hang to myself, especially in large groups.  But I did have a blast :).
I have started a blog all of my own for this journey.  Please follow me at www.digitalsheep.org.

SHAWN-hanging by yourself in this crowd is unacceptable, lol.  We're huge party people and love to add more to our circle.  I have a vendor booth at the OH conference (I sell WLS success lockets and other jewelry) so PLEASE stop by and say HI.  I think Que is going to help me as well as other regular TMB members so you can very painlessly meet us!!

Well - I'm not a newbie......but everyday is a new day !!  lol.......Thanks Stephanie for putting this out there.....

I can't wait to meet new people and  Stephanie is correct:  If you don't have a support group....chances are you'll start sliding back because other people / friends just don't get us.

My sister in Tulsa has watched 3-4 people fail their surgery and can now understand even though I've gained some weight back, the difference is the fact is that they haven't followed their plan - no support group....just had the surgery and got back into their OLD life and the difference is  - that  OH friends ARE MY LIFE NOW...............NOW SHE GETS THE DIFFERENCE....

((((((((Huggs)))))))))))))

I WILL BE IN HOUSTON........WITH BELLS AND WHISTLES !!
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I am more than a year post op so not considered a newbie but I am going to my 1st OH Conference. I already have the tickets and room so we are good to go.   I was also at the dinner Saturday night with my cousin and sister but being our first group dinner we were a little on the shy side and didn’t work the room, I  will plan to do better at meeting people at the conference. I am starting to get into jewelry/accessories now that I am near goal so I will be sure to stop by your booth. Saundra
