NEWBIES-Who's going to the OH Conference?

It was great meeting you and your possee at the dinner sat. Im afraid the 'working the room' part was partially my fault as the room wasnt as big as I was led to believe by the resturant lol. Next time i will try to find us a bigger room so we can ALL work the room (thats how we usually do it).

Saundra-I'm sorry I missed you at the dinner too.  Unfortunately the room was so small, I didn't get the opportunately to meet anyone new.  We'll have lots more time at the OH conference.  It's nice to see someone else from "our" part of town on the board.

 I'm planning to be there, very excited as this will be my first conference.  Thanks Vivian for the code!!!  Hopefully I will find someone to share a room.

 What exactly happens at the OH conference? If I'm just in the beginning stages (i.e., don't even know what type or when surgery will be), is it worthwhile to attend? Do most of you attending who live in Houston or the surrounding areas stay overnight or just drive back and forth? I'd be coming from Katy, which is only about 30 minutes, but wonder if it's worth staying at the hotel?

If I do attend, where would I find a discount code and where do I go to sign up?

Hi, You can register right here in the upper right corner under Events on the Texas Board . You can also see everything that will be going on. Fri nite is a pool meet and greet then Sat are various speakers and breakout groups.At night Sat. will be the Fashion Show and Dance and I think Casino Night. Husbands are welcome many families come for the whole weekend. There is also a Big Clothing Exchange. You can look though the posts and find promo codes from the various  support groups to get the discount.Bring an extra bag for all the free samples and fun things you will win and the New clothes you will pick out.. You don't necessarily need to get a room but Sat. nite will be late and we always have such a good time in the pool Fri nite and stay up late. I agree with Steph I went for the first time to the RYD Conference in Galveston last year and everyone is Great. Can't wait to see friends and show off how far I have come. I've made life long friends. I totally agree my support group friends are so close they know me better than my children because we talk about everything we cannot talk to others about because they do not live this life. People are coming from as far as Georgia that I have heard . Please Join Us. I look forward to meeting everyone!  

I'm sure someone can supply the conference link - basically there will be classes, meetings and workshops, all on differnt aspects of wls - some times there are ones on different surgeriers, plastics afterwards, cooking, often there is a yoga one, cooking ones (learned some awesome things that cooking school didi not teach me that enable me to change up recipes more so I can eat more of what my family likes with way less surgar or fat)
There will be social things in the evenings, lunch for sure and often dinner or snacks are provided

as to getting a room or driving that is up to you - are you likely to bail on the social stuff if you "have to drive home " and miss out on gaining/building those friendships that can help you though your wls and weight loss? if so get a room, if you will want to drink at the evening social event, get a room. If you are good with the drive than save the $s

As for the discount codes - since you are in katy you might want to see if Sean has any left, if not I believe Viv (higher up on this post) has some - I only suggest Sean first b/c each time someone uses a discount code OH gives their support group funds so the closer to home the better for you:)
