I am having a problem with some constipation problems.  Introducing new semi-solid foods....Is that it??  Or is it something else?  I am getting in 64 oz of water, vitamins, calcium and 15 min of walking a day.  Is this normal for a newbee?

my doctor and nurse and some people here on OH suggested MiraLax and i haven't had a problem since.  i don't take it every day, but i'll take a dose if i figured i haven't pooped in a day.  makes me nervous.  ; )

I've battled with constipation all my life, and until now just dealt with it.  After surgery it never got any better, but thankfully never got worse.  I talked to my surgeon and he told me to take Miralax every day.  It's not habit forming so it can be taken daily without any issues.  I do that now, 1 cup ful in my protein shake every day and life is much better.  There are still occasionally times that I need some extra help and when I do I'll add a "generous portion" of Phillips Milk of Magesium to my daily routine and that usually takes care of it.

It's totally normal. I had a horrible experience I do NOT ever want to repeat! I finally came up with the formula that works for me.

stool softeners 3x a day
Mirilax and Fiber Sure in my morning protein tea, Fiber sure in my evening tea
Magnesium Oxide 400mg 2x a day

Yep - a common side-effect of RNY.

I couldn't take stool softeners early out because they made my pouch burn, so I used Miralax in my protein coffee every morning.  It is expensive stuff, so I tried the generic stool softeners again at about 9 months out and was fine with them.  I take 2 every morning and that is usually all I need.

constipation is very normal as you're not eating as much as you used to and the new isn't pushing out the old. As your body gets used to your new way of life you may not need anything, but until then...
Check with your doc re stool softeners. Not a laxative, but makes things easier and less painful.
Walmart has their Equate brand...look for docusate sodium. How many you need is an individual thing. I need only one a day.
Good luck and hope everything comes out alright!
How to tell if you're getting enough fiber:your poop floats! This is totally serious.
