Hey everyone, Thanks for everyone who has been replying to my posts. I have two questions for you all tonight, 1) Those of you who had the surgery awhile back, what's the most you can eat post-op? Just... curious... I got a little panicked reading about how a meal can be like a few pieces of deli meat and string cheese the other day... 2) I've never tried Lean Cuisine, so is it good? Is it healthy for post-op meals? (I'll be living in the dorms and it might be nice to have a few to put in my tiny room. Never been interested before but if they're good....) Thanks! Nia

Look at the nutritional guidelines on the meals, and if it fits in with you NUTs advice, go for it!

Like Fred said...you will want to consult your nutritionist...BUT...they're tasty.  I haven't had surgery yet, but I eat them a lot now.  There are a ton of choices, and it doesn't get any easier, huh? They're within the calorie range, low fat, not enough protein.  They also have a lot of preservatives and sodium.  South Beach makes ones with more whole grains, lower carbs, and more protein.  They're really tasty too.

the ones ive gotten have like 20 to 23 grams of protein in them low in carbs and calories too.

1) dont worry you will be full on a couple pieces of deli meat and string cheese. after the liquid diet you will be happy to have that.  Im only a little over 3 months out but I do eat  "normal" meals just very little and I eat the protein and some veggies. I might have a bite of the pasta or potatoes if they look yummy. I dont feel deprived at all. I dont really measure like I should so at times I do feel a bit full and whats great is I used to feel that way when I ate a big plate or two of food. Now I feel full on around 1/2 cup of food! 2) I ate the "diet" frozen foods from time to time. You have to try them to see which ones you like the best. I like the Smart Ones mostly but lean cuisine has some good ones too. But now there is the South Beach Diet ones and they are more what VSGrs need. High protein, low carbs.

Hi! Just wanted to add that the South Beach diet frozen dinners are good! I had a whole wheat pizza one the other day. What I learned is that next time I will cut it in 1/2 before microwaving it - and it will make 2 meals.  It is the tiny pizza size - but believe it or not - 1/2 does the trick.   Good luck!  Erin R

I can answer number 1 for you but I haven't eaten the lean cuisines so i cant help there sorry. the most I can eat..............i am 9 months post-op. Today I ate coffee with protien shake (3 cups) lunch....5 pieces of tofu, 1 oz. miso salmon, small piece of sugar free cake snack........protien coffee (1 cup) dinner......2 oz. chicken, zuchinni snack.....1/2 loves pie. Nia..........try checking out the daily eating thread that gets posted. There are a bunch on here and you can start to get a good feel for what folks eat on a daily basis. jeni

Nia,

at 14 mos out, it still varies day to day and depending on the food.... 'slider' foods (crackers, soft foods, etc) tend to be able to eat more... last night for dinner we had burgers on the grill, baked beans, fries... I had maybe 2 tsp of beans, almost 1/2 a burger and 2 fries and was STUFFED..

As for lean cuising, read the labels; go for those with high protein/low carbs.. many are high in carbs but by getting the ones high in protein and first eating the meat out of it, you'll avoid alot.  After surgery it was a struggle to get 1/2 of one down.... now I can sometimes eat a whole small meal, but it takes a little time (like at my desk at work and putting it aside and coming back to it).

Like someone else said, I prefer the weigh****chers Smart Ones, they just have more flavors I like and they have alot that are higher protein... if its not close to or more than 20g protein, I normally bypass it.

The first few weeks I'd have deli meat and a slice of 2% swiss cheese, picking bites off of each, I couldn't get the entire slice of cheese down with the turkey.... early on you are still swollen and a few bites will fill you up, don't be scared, but DO NOT PROCEED to real foods until your body is ready!!!

Good luck!!

hi im about 6 weeks out this week. and i think eveyone will tell you thats everyones different how much you can eat but you suppose to eat 1 to 2 months out 1/4 to 1/2 cup at each meal unless its liquid than thats more.  2. lean cusine is good but id say stay away from the pasta ones. stuffers bistros are good to i had the roasted chicken breast with mashed potatoes and gravy.  also meijer's now has a their own lean cuisane under their name. and its cheaper! somethimes it takes around 2 meal times to eat the lean cuisandes  cause they are like 9 oz for everyting.
