Hate this stall...

I am getting so frustrated right now. I am at a stall and the scale isn't moving.  I know it's supposed to happen..but I hate this.  I know the body has to catch up -- but how long is this going to continue??

I tried to get more protein in yesterday -- and today the scale is up not down.  I am drinking as much as as I can, no where near where I did before surgery. Prior to surgey, I could drink a gallon a day. Now I get in about 50 oz a d(water, tea, and milk).

I have been doing 3 "meals' and 3 "snacks" per my nutritionist, but I feel like I am constantly eating or drinking. But if I don't, I'll get nowhere near my protein goals.

A sample menu:
B: egg beaters with cheese
S: yogurt or smoothie
L: egg salad, chicken salad, pureed lunchmeat (2oz of one of those listed)
S: Cheese stick
D: Soup (broccoli with cheese and chicken pureed)
S: 8oz over the moon milk (11g protein in the chocolate, 10g for the regular milk) it is1% milk but tastes like full fat. or SF pudding.

I have had a bit more energy and gone shopping and been cleaning the house...counting that as exercise, since I haven't done that stuff in years.

Still nothing is moving.  I am a heavweight and thought the weight would come off so much faster at first..but nothing is moving.  Help!

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

Expectations are the center of bad thoughts.  Don't over achieve and plan to just keep increasing you movement and you body will respond after the shock goes away.  I stall every day or two some times more but then bam and it's like the old body laughing.. Relax and enjoy the ride..

Aloha Jobsies- You are just over 3 weeks out? Classic time for a plateau as your body readjusts and body composition changes, and you start to add more foods into your diet. I know it's been posted before, bu****er weight and depleting glycogen stores are what cause the rapid fluctuations in weight- the long term fat loss is a slower process. Here is Karen B's excellent explanation:

A "stall" at this point is inevitable, and here is why.

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored

At 3 weeks out, you should try to start an exercise program of at least walking a consistent amount of time each day- don't depend on house cleaning and shopping for your cardio! And don't get discouraged - I am shocked to find  that at 4 months out, weight is dropping off faster than I ever expected...but I am swimming 90 minutes 7 days a week now, and walking everywhere. Didn't hit this level of exercise til about a month ago, have dropped 20 lbs this month compared to 16 the month before.

Stalls are part of the process, try to use a different mode of measurement during them if that's what keeps you motivated- measurements ( if you haven't done it yet, do it NOW so you can compare in 2-4 weeks!). Go through your closet and try on clothes that you used to squeeze into, now they are loose. Compare minutes of exercise this week with minutes of exercise 3 weeks ago. There are lots of different ways other than the scale to track your progress.

Keep the faith, Jobs - XoLori

Hang in there.  You are 3 days ahead of me.  I started a stall around Oct 11.  Like you I actually gained a few pounds in the process.  I was in shock and really frustrated considering I was barely eating anything.  Yesterday I finally saw a 1.5 lb loss and today I am finally below my previous low. Frustrating week for a lot of reasons.  So hopefully for both me and you we get back to our losing ways.  And gaining weight when you are 6'4" and eating 400 +/- calories a day really blows out of the water all of the experts who insist weight gain/loss is simple math.

BTW I'm still not anywhere near my protein goals.  I'm trying to be patient but I just can't get enough down. It is hard enough to get down enough water.  You're doing it right you'll just have to wait this out.  "This too shall pass"

Stalls suck! Add water or bump up your calories. Best of luck

I guess Im lucky in that I havent actually gone thru a stall anytime during my 7 months.
I havent alwyas lost some weeks.  but that was just me and my food choices.
my only advice is to change ur diet up from day to day.....for instance, one day, eat 800 calories, the next day eat 900 calories.....and so on....
it keeps ur body wondering whats going on and keeps it out of the rut it can get into.
dont give up..u can do it..
