My new addiction: THE SCALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *screams*

Hello all!

I can't step away from the scale.  I am a bit over a month out and my weight loss is starting to slow down to about 1-2lbs/week.....which is healthy.  However, I get on the scale like 3 times a day with crazy expectations.  I am freaking addicted to the scale!  How'd you guys overcome it?

I also expect to lose so much weight in so little time.  I step on the scale hoping to lose a pound every day.  I know that's crazy, but I guess I was spoiled from the first couple of weeks where I would lose like 8lbs in a week.  How did you guys deal with the slowed weight loss?  I know it's not a realistic expectation, but I'm just crazy like that! LOL ;)

Thanks!

LOL get over it or handle it?  I weigh about 2 times a day, but I only count what I weigh on Monday morning!

I say do it as long as your emotions highs and especially LOWS are NOT effected by what the scale says.

Wow.. you are no different than many of us so understand you are not alone..LOL

I really ought to super glue thumb tacks to the top of my scale and then I dare myself to get on. LOL

When you have an addiction issue you will put that into everything you do but it isn't a bad thing because it comes in handy to keep us going in the right direction.

I use meditation, reading books, learning, exercising, and the OH board to keep me from obsessing over that stupid scale. Really whoever invented it should be shot. It is a part of our lives but we don't need to let it control every waking moment of it.

When I get to the point I don't weigh every day I will let you know...

Then just throw the damn thing away!  It isn't healthy to keep doing this to yourself.  You are settting yourself up for failure, because you have unrealistic goals that nobody could possibly meet.

That's exactly the kind of stuff that got so many of us in trouble with our weight.

If you really can't control your impulse to weight yourself, then seek some help.  That is an indication of obsessive-compulsive behavior, which can be easily treated with medications.

I just love Old Medic, he has such great advice but such an interesting way of voicing it...I am still cracking up!  I can just picture him being an army medic treating a wounded soldier "shut up and stop being a pansy a$$, you ONLY got shot twice".  LMAO

Anyhoo, I always advise people that you should NOT under any cir****tances weigh everyday!  With that being said, I have been below goal for months and I still weigh twice every single day of my life!  (giggling now)

So, if it makes you upset when you weigh, you really should try to avoid it any more then once a week.  That way, you are almost guaranteed a loss and therefore you will feel happy and do better!  Good luck deciding what to do with that evil scale.

It would be real, real easy for me to weigh every 5 minutes!  The scale has been my enemy for so many years that I avoided weighing at all costs.  I even refused to let the nurse at my internists office weigh me.

But now the numbers are going down like they never have before.  The scale is no longer my judge.  It's a tool to keep me on my path.  I weigh once a week.  If I'm tempted, which is often, I run out of the room and distract myself with something healthy.  Not easy....

Aloha TTST- Ummm, I weight myself every day and giggle maniacally. My husbnad says one of his favorite ways to wake up is hearing the scraaaaape of the scale as I pull it onto the tile floor and then either "Wheeee!" or "All right!" or giggles as I get on it. I threw my old scale in the trash when I hit the high 270's.....many many years ago. I use my first AM weight as my weight for the day. I don;t weight on vacation or when I'm out of town. And NOW I will weight myself on our large scale at work at the hospital-wouldn;t do it beofre in case someone pulled up the memory to see what I weight. Giggle. XOXOLori

I call it scaleanoia an we all seem to have some kind of version of it.  I got my husband to put mine away for a while and bring them out Monday mornings only......like that lasted 2 weeks.  Then when we went on vacation and I could not weigh, it start the paranoia again and my scales live permanently on the floor outside the second bathroom.....phew.....I am addicted!!!
