Caffeinated Coffee

I went to my first support group meeting at the hospital where I'll have my surgery.  Most people at the meeting had RNY or lap band, and it was discussed that coffee is a no-no unless it's decaf.

Since I'm pre-WLS, I haven't been given all diet information yet.  Is caffeinated coffee a no-no for VSG patients too?  What did your surgeon advise you?

My surgeon wanted us to wait until he felt the stomach was healed, 6 weeks - with the caveat that you must drink an extra glass of water for each cup of coffee as it is a diuretic.

I personally did not feel like coffee for almost 3 months, it just did not smell good at first.

I have no problem with caffene.  I would wait for a few months post-op before drinking it.  Mr. Dr. didn't advise it early on during the inital healing.

I was told i had to wait a year..... I just drank a cup last week, and had one about every day sense, but I do limit it to one, and I waited about 7 weeks

No one said anything to me about not drinking coffee, so I have been having an occasional nonfat latte since about 3 weeks. I think I have had 3 since surgery.

I've drank coffee a few times.  My doc and NUT advised to wait until all was healed and to increase water consumption when having caffiene due to increase risk of dehydration.

I used to live on quad shots of expresso to get through my days and really find that I don't need it anymore.

I drink it every morning :0)  Thing is, caffiene can dehydrate so you have to remember to drink extra water.  That's the main reason.
