I was wondering if anyone has tried Polenta as an alternative to pasta, rice, etc.. i just found it in the grocery store in this tube and it seems like its pretty soft/easily digestable?

just wondering if anyone has any experience with it.. ive never had it myself

I absolutely LOVE polenta. It is basically corn mush, so nothing but carbs, ie, sugar  :-(   It is easily digestible, but I don't think it is on our menu.

Just my opinion here , but you might want to keep the carb count pretty low at this point.  ( i think polenta is corn meal and carb  dense!)   i was doing 40 or less carbs till 9 months out ( I now do about 50 per day.   If you are on soft foods or mushies try... yogurt, eggs,  tofu, cottage cheese, etc.    "Put your hands in the air and step away from the polenta!"  good luck!

Hey Jimbo,
I just was looking at the nutrition facts for 2 1/2" slices (100g)

Calories       70g
Sodium        310g
Total Carb.   15g
dietary fiber  1g
sugars          1g
protein           2g

i dont know if its just me.. but this doesnt seem that bad?

My nutritionist did tell us we could have grits, which are similar to polenta but don't have the sugar.  They still have the carbs so I am not eating them.  Polenta is definitely yummy though-too bad it's full of the carbs!

The carb amount isn't bad but the protein amount is really low and polenta is very filling so there wouldn't be much room for anything else.

This guy told me at my support group that he made himself a deal. He is always to eat his protein first and full serving when he was done if he was still hungery (which this barely happens) he could have the carbs he wanted. He says by the time he is done his desire for the carbs is pretty much gone or he will just have a bite. I love this idea

I tried it before surgery and did not like it.  I think maybe I might not have cooked it properly.  coco135

Had gastric by-pass 8 months ago, tried polenta by mistake (by being polite at a friends mother's house) and it really hurt me, like eating pasta or bread.
