Anyone use a heating pad for post-op gas pain?

I am 4 days post-op and the gas is really killing me.  I took some Phazyme but it hasn't helped.  I've been walking a lot -today: twice around the block and once to the corner and back and lots of pacing around the house.  My neighbor (a retired nurse) suggested a heating pad.  I won't put it on my incision sites but right now I have it on my back and shoulder blades.  Any thoughts on using a heating pad or any other suggestions for relief?

 Peace!

i hate to be the one to tell you but a heat pad won't do a lot to help. the gas is the worst part I promise the only thing that help  me was walking alot I went to the mall and walk as much as I could.

Good Luck

The heating pad totally took away mine, not permanently but for hours at a time :) As soon as I felt it I put back on. I had two places that hurt, right under my breast sometimes and other times the back of shoulder and up over the top a lil. Worked wonders and nothing else did!

Yes, definitely it will help. When I was in the hospital the nurse suggested warmed blankets and I was much more comfortable. When I got home I used my heating pad on my tummy.

I've been using the heating pad on my tummy since getting home yesterday. I'm not having any gas issues, but my surgeon said he sucks as much out as possible.

Thanks for all the responses.  I felt that it did give me some relief.  Even if it didn't take away the gas pain it did give me some comfort.  I took another walk around the block with hubby at 10pm before bed but when I got into bed I had so much gas pressing against my left lung I couldn't breath.  Had to get up and pace around the house for 20 minutes or so.  Had some hot/warm water and sat up for a while.  Eventually I was able to lay back down and go to sleep.

Vinny Mac, my surgeon's nurse said this weekend I should be going to the mall or Target or someplace like that to get that kind of walking in.  I'm going out today for a few short outings.  I know it's going to get better -I just have to walk and hydrate myself and wait it out.

 Peace!
