My PCP thinks this might be what is causing pain across my back just below my shoulders. If not that, then arthritis of the thoracic spine.

He is sending me for a GI consult and spine xrays to rule out one or both or confirm one or both.

What is your experience with this?
Thanks,
Holly

Hi Holly. I had this happen to me soon after surgery. I don't remember pain across my back to be honest. I just had a hard time swallowing, everything hurt going down. My doctor prescribed Levsin and it made a big difference. Feel better soon!

Thanks. I have never had any trouble swallowing pre or post of and no pain in that area. Seems odd to me but will follow thru and see what comes of it.

Thanks for your reply.

I had them from eating baked pork rinds, but I had pain like a heart attack in my esophageal area.  I was not chewing well nor was I eating slow.  Therefore, I am doing much better.  After surgery, I had back pain due to gas.  I took Gas-X, which really helped so much.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I also had gas immediately post op that was relieved with Gas-X but I am 13 months post op and have no trouble eating or drinking and haven't since surgery. I will have to see what the tests say ,I guess.

I have had them for years.  I almost did not have the WLS because of them.  But mine did not hurt across my back.  Mine caused trouble with swallowing.  I was able to control it prior to surgery with drinking large swallows of cold water.  Two or three swallows and it would open things up.  I knew I would not be able to drink large amounts of water after surgery.  Because of this I had all my meds switched from pills to liquids.  Well almost all.  My protonix was switched to granular.  They don't have a liquid protonix but I could put my granular protonix in applesauce after surgery. Because of my spasms, I often had trouble swallowing pills... but still no pain in my back or shoulders.

Thanks for your reply. No,I don't have any trouble swallowing and never have since surgery. I just have never heard of back pain being associated, but then I am not a Dr.
Thanks.
