I Feel Like A Freak... Kind Of

So tonight I made the 100 mile drive to go to support group. I haven't gone since Dec due to crappy ND winter roads and thought tonight would be a good night for a couple reasons.. My nut was presenting and I seen her since I was 6 weeks post op, I needed to go Sam's Club BAD and I had Kohl's cash that I HAD to use!!! I also got to meet one of my OH friends in person which was very cool!!!

The topic was protein... didn't learn much there... but I was soo surprised in the conversations about those who have had surgery even more recently talking about eating pasta, rice, potatoes, and breads...

I'm not meaning to offend anyone either by posting all this... but being a month out and eating pasta, rice, and all that stuff just seems crazy to me. I am almost 5 months out and I have not eaten pasta or rice and have only had 2 bites total of bread. We all have different paths.. Mine doesn't include that kind of stuff..

I don't know the last time I went I felt like an outcast because I was literally the youngest one there by about 15 - 20 years... Now I feel like a freak because I seem to be the only one NOT eating that type of stuff... and I DO NOT INTEND TO ANYTIME SOON!

Who the heck knows.. I'm pretty sure I'm over analyzing this...

Well you've lost 89 lbs. so your path seems fine!  Keep up the good work if it's working!  These are things that we do not need in our lives that made us have to go this route.  So just keep doing you!

You Freak!

Your just starting another carb war !!!!

OK...... your not starting another carb war.......but a Freak???? (you know I'm kidding cause your kiddable!)

Ultimately it's about your surgeons program on carb consumption.

Support groups are supposed to be educational....sure the further out you get.....you pick up less.... But your supposed to learn something......or share......

That said, I have heard many times on this board about janky support groups. I guess you have to make a determination if it's worth the time and gas.....

GEZ!!! I guess I kind of opened myself up to get **** People who know me in "real" life give it to me all the time... and I get it on here, too!!! I need to work on that I think! lol

No carb wars here... It's just amazing how different people are to me.. I guess perhaps if I wasn't out here all the time soaking up everything some of you vets say I may think and act differently!

Surgeons plan is no more than 15g per meal/snack... In all my "freakiness" I  only consume about 25-35 a day!!

I'm thinking it's only worth my gas, especialy at $3.69, if I have other stuff to do in that town at the same time!!! Unless I find myself a car that get's about 50 mpg... that'd be handy!

I don't think you're over analyzing. I have a friend who not even a month out was eating cookies and french fries in the same day and I was all  (I imagine this guy is saying, "You're putting that in your mouth? NOOOOO!")

Of course, I don't want to say anything because it is her body, her choice but it's like, if you're going to have a major surgery for weight loss, don't you want to tackle the head stuff too and remember why you got fat in the first place???  I am no saint but I don't think I'll be putting carbs like that in my system for a long time.  This is why I believe seeing a therapist should be a requirement post wls until you reach maintenance and have your sh*t together.

I just can't get over how different people work!  Kind of like some people can allow themselves that "treat" once in a blue moon. NOT me! It took me a little while to figure that out. I have that 1 thing and it's a downward spiral to nowhere!!

I think you're doing great and you can only fix you ,  no one else.   I think they may all regret their food choices down the line.   I went a few times to my doctor's support groups but in my opinion they were a joke so i get my main support from family, friends and OH   Keep doing what you're doing  you are doing great    :o) Jeani

Thanks Jeani!! Yeah, I do really feell that this is the best place for me to get my support from others that have had this surgery. It's MUCH cheaper too!!! lol Just thought of that 1 month of internet service is pretty similiar to what I paid for gas yesterday!! To think I can come out here any time of day and get it! That's pretty damn good deal!!
