okay vsg how much weight did you lose in the first month!!!
Revision on 01/14/14
I lost about 22.5 pounds in the first month and 32.5 since the diet. I lost about 35 prior to surgery to reduce the stress on my body this has helped. I did not want my guts re-routed so thats why I went with the sleeve in addition with the RNY the pouch does strech over time and so will the stomach but not as much the weight regain for the VSG is on avg 5% as apposed to 10% for the RNY.
I lost 21lbs my frist month. My starting weight was 356, surgery weight was 330, today I'm at 266.
You get what you want out of this journey... I believe this in any surgery type. If you want to get down to 150 you must put forth the effort to get there yourself. The surgery isn't going to do it for you..
I personally have mine at 175.. I would LOVE to get lower than that, but I figured that was a good goal... I told myself once I get below 200 I would re-evaluate.
Wishing you the best on your journey, not matter what path you choose!

I will be a month out at the end of the week and I've lost 14 lbs since surgery; 27 since my preop diet. Not horrible but of course I had hoped to lose more. Then again, I'd have to ask...when was the last time I lost 14 lbs in a month?? The key to remember...is every BODY loses differently. The key is that we do lose! ;)

Jimbo started at 600lbs and has lost 300 so far. It can be done. Lots of people lose lots of weight with the sleeve. I would say all of us didn't like the re arranging of our intestines and are very happy with our results. You have to do what you think is best for you but i doubt anyone here will advise you to get the bypass. We all LOVE our sleeves. Best thing i ever did. I wish you every success in your journey

I think the question should be "how much can/did you lose and maintain?" Losing is the easiest thing in the world in comparison to keeping it off with the least amount of complications, and struggles long term.
Check out the revision board, go back several pages, and see just how many RNY patients are looking for different revision options because 1) they gained weight back 2) they've stretched their stoma or pouch 3) they are having complications.
For me, and me alone, I can say that I lost just as fast, if not faster than some RNY patients that started at the same time, and with similar pre-op stats. I have zero food or medication restrictions, zero vitamin deficiencies, and live a very normal, active, fun life post-vsg with 138lbs total loss.
Pick the surgery that is going to give you the best chance at long term success, that will fit your lifestyle needs and wants in 5+ years, not just the first 12 months because maintenance is key to long term success. I lost around 30ish the pounds the first month and started at 263lbs standing 5'2". I did have complications because I was a revision patient, and the first couple of weeks post-op I was via IV with 1800 calories, nutrients, protein, and medication and nothing by mouth so that probably contributed to my 1st month loss numbers, BUT I dropped 115lbs in 6.5 months post-op, and I worked my ass off to lose that weight to get me to goal fast and hard. I didn't work any harder than any other patient. I followed the post-op dietary guidelines, and stayed focus. I've maintained my 138lbs loss for a year with a 5lb bounce around on the scale. Well, except I'm now 10 weeks pregnant, and have technically gained 2.5-3lbs but I do not count pregnancy weight as regain. I'm supposed to gain weight during a pregnancy, but I don't see myself gaining huge amounts of weight in the next 30 weeks. My ob said I should gain about 30lbs, the good thing is that I can eat what my body and the baby needs, I'm absorbing all my nutrients, and I'm doing amazingly well. The best thing is that I know how to get back to my maintenance weight once I deliver.
Best wishes in your research ! ! !
