Today is 1 month for me. I have lost a total of 44 lbs.....31 of those since day of surgery. It has not been too bad but at the same time it has not been too easy either for me as far as getting in the liquids. I have been at a stall for over a week and a half and I bet is because of not getting in my liquids.   Pre-op I used to drink 64 to 100 ozs. of liquid a day and since surgery I have yet to hit 64 ozs.   I keep trying every day but just can't seem to get there and I am definitely feeling the effects. My throat has become somewhat sore , my mouth is a bit white, my skin is very dry and it seems my tummy is beginning to have make more acid. I am taking prilosec and have sometimes taken 2 a day depending on how my tummy feels.  I was not getting in enough protein either for awhile there but have since moved to pureed foods and upped my calories to about 500 a day and sometimes have reached 600. So I still have a lot of learning and work to do.

My other issue is my hernia.   With my weight loss my belly has started to hang and the hernia is pulling on my belly causing some discomfort when I walk. My surgeon did not want to repair the hernia so that in the future when I have lost most of my belly fat he can repair the hernia and also remove the excess skin from my belly and have it covered. I hope that does not bite me in the end. I am looking into ordering a binder so that I could get my walking in without pain.  All in all I am happy with my decision and my weight loss and look forward to this stall to be over and continue with the weight loss.  I have lost in inches also and will post some pictures on my profile in the next few days hopefully.    I hope that all new VSGer's are doing well and having a descent and uneventful recovery!!

Sounds like you are doing great!  I totally understand about the fluid issue...I am 6 months out and still have to work hard and I average about 50 oz. a day and it is working for me.  I hope everything goes alright with your hernia!

I am looking forward to those pictures!  44 lbs make a big difference! Best of luck to you as you continue on with this journey!

I havent had my surgery yet but my surgeon says that I will have a timer that goes off every 15 minutes to remind me to drink my liquids. Maybe you could try something like that? It is one ounce of liquid every 15 minutes from what I am told, for the first week then it increases as the weeks go by etc. Great job on your weight loss!! Sorry to hear about your hernia but the surgeon has a good idea of waiting so that it will be covered by your insurance because removing the excess skin is very expensive. Good Luck!

That's a great idea and I have been told that a few times.  I just can't seem to stick with it.   I forget.....walk around doig things and I just don't even pay attention to that dang buzzer.  I'm going to try it this weekend though because I REALLY NEED to.  Thanks for the idea.   Well wishes for your surgery and recovery.  Waiting is the worst I think .....but all of a sudden the day is here!!   Good Luck!!

Where do you buy the "binder" to wear around your waste?  I notice when I wear a tight denim jacket, I feel so much better being tight.  Any suggestions on what type of store to check out?

I just did an internet search and found that Walgreens has surgical binders online and in their stores.

I just put abdominal binder in the google search engine.   There are a zillion sites to buy from.   Walgreens does have them but I found them to be too small.   I'm still deciding which one to order.
