Question for all of you Sleevers!

hi everyone! I'm pretty new to OH and love the site already!
I meet with my surgeon for the first consultation on Thursday. It's a three hour appointment where I meet with the surgeon, a dietician, and the program coordinator. I cannot express my excitement!
I have a lot of questions to ask them, but there is something I wanted to ask all of you...
I have completely ruled out my wanting of the gastric band (not for me no thank you!)
And I am leaning toward the VSG....
So here is my question!
What made you guys decide to get the VSG over the RNY?
Thank you all in advance! Look forward to getting to know you all! <3

funny, my plumbing doesn't work right and didn't want future issues to be brushed off as..."oh, that's just the RNY thing" . My plumbing problems have not been fully addressed. I have had IBS for several years. Diarrhea is part of that ... the constipation associated with VSG has helped.
My VSG is working and I love it.
I wanted my stomach to work the same way it always has, its just not as big. I didnt want to have to deal with a port in my stomach and dealing with the fills that goes along with the lap band...and I just didnt feel comfortable by passing things, and the malabsorbtion, I just didnt feel that the by pass was for me, the sleeve was a happy medium and I couldnt be happier!

Check out the revision boards....this gives you an idea of who is not happy with their WLS. The reasons I picked the sleeve was:
1. I did not want malabsorption
2. Did not want to dump
3. I knew I needed restriction
Good luck with your choice!

Hi Amanda,
Welcome to OH. This is a great place for info and support.
As for myself, I wanted the lap-band for a long time. I had tried to have it placed about 5 years ago and the insurance denied me. Long story short, I am so glad it didn't work out. Since that time I have did A LOT of research and found the sleeve was the WLS for me.
I never wanted the RNY because of the rerouting of intestines and dumping, but I also have some friends who have had it and they have had some problems, such as strictures, hernias, post-op hypoglycemia, and problems with their teeth (calcium deficiencies). I just didn't want to trade obesity for other health problems.
The sleeve still lets you absorb all your vitamins and nutrients, so for me, that is a gooooood thing.
Hope this helps.
Brenda
