hI,
I have a question that I hope someone could answer. I came home with my drain tube still in, the color of the drainage was bloody and now it is getting more clear, just a touch of color. My husband was worried about the color. I told him I think it is were my insides are healing. But he is worried and I told him I would come on here and ask you all. I just took a shower and hurting just tad bit, everything seems ok. Has anyone had pain on the left side of your tummy? I have just a little once in awhile, just wondering.
Thank You all
God Bless
Evie

I just had my surgery and my left side hurt a little bit until they took the drain out.  The nurse told me that a light color from the drain was normal.  Either way, I would call tomorrow if you are still having concerns, I am not a nurse/doctor I can only tell you what mine said to me.  Good luck!

I am thinking that the color is normal. As your insides heal, it would make sense for there to be less blood, and more clear. But just to put your Hubbys mind at ease, call the Dr in the AM, just to be sure.

The light color is what you want.  It all sounds okay.

Pain on the left side is normal.  That's the side they usually pull everything out of, so there's more internal stitching and more soreness.

Clear is good Evie! You are healing that is how mine done until there was hardley any drainage at all coming out..They kept mine in a little bit longer than most because of all the complications with the gallbladder surgery but your doing great...

Yep, clear is good... It may fluctuate: Clear sometimes, then more red again, then sorta pink. You only need to worry if it looks like pus. Yuck, that wasn't even fun to type that word! Ugh. Anyway... Sounds like you're 100% normal! Pain on the left side is normal, too. Tell your hubby not to sweat it, it's all good!

It is sounding totally normal and great healing. I had deep pain for a full 2 weeks post op, and was worried about it. About a week out I called my surgeon and asked about it he said and I quote "You just had major surgery, what did you expect? Have you gone through the 3 bottles of pain meds ? (huh ? I didn't even know there were refills on it) That is why we give them to you, so you are not in pain."

Remember~~~ someone had a bunch of metal objects stuck in your belly for a couple hours, they cut through tissue, and muscle and took out most of your stomach ! You have staples galore that are holding raw tissue together. It's gonna hurt. Take your pain med, let hubby baby you somemore !

I'm always amazed at the various procedures, practices, outcomes, and simply everything.  I did NOT have a drain tube. Hmmm...  oh well.  The pain sounds like what I had... in fact, I was tender for 4 weeks and come and go tendernes for another 4 weeks.

Evie, sounds like you'll be ok...  ~~S
