Hi all,

So I got my initial blood work back and it says that I am thiamine deficient and my surgeon wants me to take a B-1 supplement for a few weeks and then transfer over to a B-Complex supplement and that should take care of it.

Anyone else had a B-1 deficiency?  What causes that....any particular foods food for it?

On a better note....my Vitamin D was great and the nut said that she very rarely sees anyone (overweight or normal) that has normal Vitamin D these days.  I guess that is a good thing?? :)

Get your thiamin going as soon as possible!  Apparently if it gets too low for too long, it can cause long-term problems.  Good luck.

I was deficent as well. I was having horrible leg aches & they said that's a sign of low Thiamine. Had blood work & sure enough, it was. I take a 100 mg Vitamin B capsule & monthly injections of B-12.

I had it also.  You get most of it from cereals and grains, so that explains why mine was low.  I have not had room for breads and cereals in my diet.  Your body cannot store it either, so you get deficient pretty quick.  The reason for the B complex from what I understand, is that it is absorbed better in the presence of other B vitamins.

My B-1 deficiency showed up in pre-op labs. I took it daily until surgery, but not sure it did any good. I woke up from surgery and they were giving it to me through my IV. My surgeon doesn't seem concerned, but I'll follow up with my pcp. The good news is that all went well with surgery and I'm feeling pretty good.

..........Usually we're HIGH on B1... pork, eggs, nuts, legumes in our diet...etc I dunno...

Take a looksie on the link  on B1 (thiamine)  below..comprehensive...how low are ya did NUT say?
addin a SuperBcomplex before bed would be great so ya ain't peein em out all day with activity.
Guys accordin to this link need 1.2mg Thiamine per day.  Its water soluble...isn't stored...excess gets peed out...Im surprised yer Multi-vit ain't givin ya 100% of requirement...may not be absorbin it for some reason....  food (^^B1) ideas scroll down and other info
