If I hear the sleeve
My issue with the way the sleeve is sometimes sold is that, in an effort to make people realize that it's not a "cure all," too many people sell it as "just another" tool. They say you must work it, you have to do the work. But often that's where the explanation stops. Well, ummmm...., I'm sorry but what the hell did you think I'd been doing? One of my biggest fears when investigating the surgery, and I don't think I'm alone here, was how would this be any different from any of the other gimmicks I'd tried? The simplistic "tool" answer only fed that fear. Believe it or not, I'd actually tried before! I tried low carb, I'd tried appetite suppressants, I'd tried Weigh****chers--everything it seemed, but to no avail. So if this came down to me "trying" again, how would surgery actually work?! Yes, it's a tool. But it's a pretty gosh-darned good tool. The best explanation I ever heard was that tools before were unsharpened and therefore did not work correctly. With surgery we're given a perfectly sharpened tool, but it is up to us to keep it maintained or else it, too, will become dull. But the point is--you're given a very efficient tool from the get-go which is nothing like what else I'd tried.
Funny !!! The problem with all wls, is that for some folks, they imagine it to be the magic bullet that will solve the fat problem. And the one thing that we know, is, that surgery is not magic; it is risky, scary, and requires a life long committment to lifestyle change.
That being said, I was just reflecting on how my dad always told me that you have to use the right tool for the job. If the wrench isn't working, you have chosen the wrong tool for the job, and when you find the right tool, you can fix just about anything !!!!
