Question for those who have had the surgery!!!
Congratulations on being scheduled! I am about 9 weeks out, and if we were campers, I would've been ready to go at 3 weeks out, BUT no lifting (the tent, the ice chest, boxes of food and other supplies)...my doctor didn't want me lifting much until at least a month out, and the surtures were healed. That said, if you have someone to lift the heavy stuff, have a blast!!!
Take care, Viv

I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow...I feel great..walking trails, going places...The only thing is it is still a bit tender by the belly button, and I'm still not super comfy sleeping in bed (I'm a side sleeper). I also am on the lifting restriction still (nothing more than 8 lbs).
And eating frequently and drinking frequently takes some thought, effort, and preparation, so it might be a pain away from home dealing with your new habits..
Right now, I don't like to be away from home more than 4 hours....because I have no idea what I'd eat out. Then again I'm still on full liquids, it gets much easier when you move to purees. But camping, you can pack everything you need, I'd imagine.
Other than a few obstacles...you will probably be up to it...
I'm going to Cancun in 2 weeks, so I say "go for it" and have fun!

Congrats on getting your date! My experience was that I could have been camping a week after my surgery. AS long as everyone else did the loading and unloading and I was able to relax. I am currently 2 weeks out today and I could load and unload today. I feel so good. I would think Camping would be great fun at 3 weeks out. Lots of walking and biking. Make plans and enjoy yourself..
I would have been fine camping 3 weeks out, as long as I didn't have to sleep on the hard ground. Hopefully you have some type of air mattress or foam mattress or whatever. I think hard ground = not fun. It's REALLY hard to say though, because everyone recovers differently. However, in most cases most people seem to be fine by 3 weeks out. Good luck!
Thanks guys for all the responses!! Yay I was hoping that was what I would hear. I am going to do it. My hubby and kids can do the lifting and bending so no worries there! Now I have to plan out meals to take or make for the trip! by 3 weeks I will still be on soft foods any ideas or suggestions to help me ????
