Dr. Verboonen vs Dr. Ortiz
Hi all,
I'm in the final stages of making a decision on which surgeon to use. I will be traveling to Mexico to have VSG completed. I've narrowed things down to Dr. Verboonen in Cancun or Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. I'm a little nervous about traveling to a border city, especially since the US state department is warning against it. I also am concerned about some of the issues that Dr. Verboonen has had related to insurance fraud. Any help, suggestions, opinions are highly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,
If anything I wouldn't pick either of these drs. I went to jaurez to a doc I would not reccommend him to anybody there 3 days next day I was home had to call ambulance and spent 2 weeks in hospital in knoxville,I'm not saying not to go but if you I would think strongly about aceves or almanza heard very good reviews of them but I went for the cheapest and it didn't get me anywhere I did get the sleeve removed but they perforated my stomach the doctor said he didn't know if I would make it that was here in the statess. Please I'm not trying to scare you just want you to make sure.
Best wishes
Cheryl

I was considering going to Dr. V in Cancun before I found out that my insurance would cover it here. I had heard about the insurance fraud. That is bad, don't get me wrong, but for you, being a self-pay, would not apply to you. As long as you have a reputable SURGEON, which I think he is, then you will be ok.
I, personally, wouldn't go to TJ for love or money. It is just too much of a risk.
Just my opinions! Do what is best for you!

My husband and I and several other family members went to Verboonen in Tijuana. I went last year on my own and then we were just there last weekend for my husband's surgery. Dr. V is great! I highly recommend him - the price is right and he is an excellent surgeon. While there I met two women from Utah - one who was there a few months ago for her surgery and came back with her sister in law for that gals surgery. They both had great things to say about Verboonen. Everyone is freaked out about TJ but I never once felt uncomfortable. I was not planning to go outside at all but soon realized it was fine. I walked to nearby stores and was fine. I was talking to Dr. V's assistants about it and they all said none of their patients have ever had a problem and many walk around alot further than I went. I speak to Dr. V on facebook whenever I have a question or concern and he is really quick to get back to me.
Thank you all for your responses....I have a telephone consult w/Dr. Ortiz today, and I think at this point he is the surgeon I am going to go with. Although I really am having a hard time wrapping my head around going to TJ for surgery. At this point w/ the reserach that I have done (a lil over 3 months worth) Dr. Ortiz seems to have the best qualifications. Again, thank you all for your opinions and thoughts. We are looking at scheduling surgery for July 3!
