restarted group and in process for VSG and frustrated
Good Morning
I started last Tuesday, the pre op diet for VSG and immediately dropped 5 lbs. I go in for my pre op eval on the 20th along with my nutrition classes. As I said I lost 5lbs immediately with the pre op diet, but now I am at a standstill.
But I have not reverted to my eating my emotions YAY
I am also looking for advice from others who had VSG -
I am excited and nervous about this whole process. I look forward to hearing your experiences and gaining knowledge for you all!

Pre-op is difficult. You have alot you have to do to get ready....insurance, classes, medical exams, more tests, more classes, and try to lose weight to shrink your liver. It is hard, but losing weight AFTER surgery isn't easy either. Recovery from surgery, learning a new way to eat and drink, sticking to a new diet; and seeing that this is a new life style and you can never go back....
Weight loss surgery isn't easy. There will be weight loss stalls, but stick to a healthy diet, stick to whatever program your doctor or nutritionist has you on, and eventually it WILL work.
From referral from my Primary doctor at Kaiser to surgery for me was 10 months. I spent the first 5 months really doing mental battle with myself if this was really the right thing for me, and researching the different surgeries. The next 3 months were classes, and medical clearances. the next 2 months were more medical tests and waiting for surgery. In the last 5 months pre-op I managed a 34 pound weight loss. Yes, it was a long time. Yes I complained. But I went into surgery sure of myself, and with the knowledge that this WAS the right thing for me.
I have ZERO regrets.

Yeah I so understand the mental battle. I started this battle in 2004 when I initially joined this group. I am now at the point with the help of therapy - working constantly on my food issues. I know now this is the right thing, and doing exactly as they have me on. Yeah I am frustrated with the stall, but it has only been a week and I try to keep reminding myself of that. Then I get frustrated when people see what I am eating and asking, "Is that it?" so I try to be me and say , "And you are going to eat that?" (I am a smart aleck by nature) but its frustrating - why must they be all up in what I am having for lunch!
I have nutrition classes the 20th of this month, and my pre op eval that day as well. Just waiting for my psych eval and my surgeon consult.
So far my experience with Kaiser: My PCP put in the referral, within a week I was in the orientation class. Then within 2 weeks I was in the main education class. Then a month later the nutrition classes and pre op eval. So far it seems rather fast - but I am doing my best to keep up.

I'm only a couple of weeks out and don't have a whole lot to offer in the advice department (yet), but you can read about my experience thus far on my blog.
