How fast do you eat?
I eat 'fast' but much smaller bites. I either weigh, or in some way measure what I need and eat that and only that as 'fast' as I can. That may be 30 minutes depending on what it is but I am pretty sure at this point how much I need and how much time I should take. For example, fruit and vegetables, I can dump a few bites down in 5 minutes without issue. Beef or chicken, I can eat 2-3 ounces in about 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Any faster and I will puke. Some foods like brisket I can eat less in longer amounts of time. I guess I have tried enough variety to more or less judge exactly how much I need to both feel satisfied and meet my goals and how long it will take me to eat that much. The only thing I struggle with is drinking too soon after. The last few times I have puked in the last few months have been solely because of that.
oh yes it matters! for me, if i eat too fast, i only get a couple bites and done! done is done when it comes to that and is usually associated with a lot of discomfort. discomfort makes me sit up straighter (makes my girls really look good, but i look too proud of them the way i sit), i have to change positions, sometimes i have to get up and walk to get the bubble of air out and/or the foo to go down.
if i slow down, take smaller bites, do the dance correctly then i am able to control my discomfort and my post eating wiggles that are annoying in crowds. since i travel often for work and have quite a few business meals, it's hard to not be conspicuous.
when eating with others i try to stretch my tiny bites to not finish in 5 minutes and finish closer with the others (never happens, but i'm getting better. when eating alone, i try to make my meal last at least 15 minutes... but, honestly i've never really timed it.
