hi,
i can only answer based on info i've seen over the last few months myself.

protein not only helps you heal, but it helps you to drop the weight, so i'd really push to get that in.

the belly pain was bad for me, but it became much more bearable in about 2 weeks, i was at camp with my students 3 weeks to the day after surgery and it was the best thing ever.  i'm convinced the increased activity level was the best medicine.  don't be afraid to walk it out.

i'm not entirely sure about the hiccups at your phase, but recently i started sneezing when i'd eat.  i found out that it's not uncommon to sneeze, hiccup, or have a runny nose when you are "done" eating or some said when you overeat.  it has something to do with the ugh, the something nerve.  lol  of course i can't remember the name right now.  i'm sure they are hurting you.  i'm sorry you are having them so frequently.

i was released to exercise at my 30 day appt which was a little surprise to me.  i could do anything i was comfortable with, which, frankly, was a lot, so that was cool.  until then i'd stick with walking.

and yes, i ate every 3 hours typically.  often i'd be stuffed so sometimes i'd pu**** to 4, but the nutritionist told me she really didn't want me going over 3 or 3.5 hours ever, so now i'm trying to meet that more often.  it does get "easier"...which still scares me, but it does.

congratulations on making this big decision.  i'm excited for you to start to see the real benefits from it soon!  :)

1. In the long run you can get malnourished. Hair loss. Slow healing. Focus on your protein! Further out it's essential for when you exercise. You don't want your body robbing your muscles for protein.

2. I never really had bad belly pain. I think mine was gone within the first week. Coincidentally, that's when my pain meds ran out, too.

3. I get the hiccups when I eat too fast. It doesn't seem to have any relation to overeating for me.

4. 4 weeks.

5. At that stage I ate 3 meals with protein drinks in between. I was never hungry. Now almost a year out I do feel more hunger.

Of course, everyone is different like you said. :)

If you go a couple days without all of your protein - nothing serious is going to happen. Long term is a different question.

The "I just got kicked in the abs and then did 100000 sit ups" feeling went away after a week. Took me 3 weeks to get rid of the pain from a stitch or something deep inside.

I've never had hiccups, sneezes or any sign of restriction :-/

My only post-op discharge instructions were 'no heavy lifting" for 2 weeks. I've been walking since 3 weeks post -op (beyond the strolls I was taking). I am nervous about weight lifting and vigorous exercise so i plan to wait 6 weeks to start that.

In an ideal world, on a perfect day, I'd like to eat a little bit every 3 hours. When I'm at work, that's not always possible so sometimes I end up going 4-5 hours with no food (and boy can I feel it). I carry water with me always, but definitely need to find a way to sneak in a snack.  I have no hunger at all, so I could go all day, but I start to get a headache and feel weak if I go tooo long.

1. what happens if you dont get all your protien?

What others said above... your body needs it to heal, so try to get in as much as you can.  Every plan is different, but my surgeon's diet recommends 80g/day (some say this is for men, it's closer to 60-something for women, but I'd rather err on the side of too much protein).

If you don't get enough, it can delay your recovery, cause hair loss and make stalls last longer.  You need your body to recognize that everything's okay, it's not starving, etc.

2. How long before you stop feeling so sore on your belly? ( i know everyone heals different)

I was still feeling the stiches pretty keenly all the way up to the 3rd week, but once I hit the 4th week, it disappeared completely... so psyched when I could sleep on my side again!

3. do the hiccups mean your eating to fast? or have i over ate?

Some have hiccups, some don't... I don't know that it's an indicator of anything as true hiccups are caused by an air bubble getting trapped in your lungs.  One or two hiccups is most likely just some trapped air escaping from your tiny tummy.

4. when were you release for excerise?

My surgeon said I could get back to it as soon as I felt up to it.  I didn't feel up to it for a while though, I first tried around the 4th week and managed about 15 mins on the elliptical, but it wiped me out.  I'm doing better now though at 7 weeks... I can do 50 minutes again.

5. how often do you eat? i never feel hungery

I have a protein shake first thing in the morning, then I eat my first actual food around lunch time... some sort of snack around 3-4pm, then dinner.  You'll find a routine that works for you, but yes, many times it's more about eating because it's time to than because you're hungry (though the hunger does play a role the further out you get... but it's normal hunger that you SHOULD be feeling, not the mindless, ravenous beast it once was).

Good luck!

Hi,

!. I have had no ill effects if enough protein is not gotten in. It may affect your weight term loss in the short run.

2. I only had minimal pain (mostly gassy from anesthetic) and it was gone in two days.

3. Could be either. Basically just try to slow down and only the proper portions.

4. Released for as much as I could tolerate as soon as I could tolerate it.

5, usually eat 3 meals + 1 snack

Our surgeries were the same day so if it helps
1. I try honestly to get all my protein in daily. Over the past two weeks I have developed a great dislike for protein drinks but have decided that I have to choke them down to get better. So I took the advice of a couple of other posters on here and make a double protein shake (and yes, I've checked with NUT, you can use that much protein at once.) and choke it down. instead of several a day. Then I try to get as much through natural nutrition.

2. I could sleep on my side starting two days ago. still sore from the internal stitches

3. I get the hiccups to..acutally it's just one hiccup.....when I think I'm getting full I feel a little weird "twinge" in my stomach....if I eat past that twinge....then I get the hiccup ...so now i'm learning to stop at the twinge...lol

4. I've been walking every day since release from the hosp, it really has helped with the soreness and it really helps to clear my mind when I'm wondering "what have I done."

5. I also never feel hungy....but since I start my day with a double protein shake I usually don't try to eat anything til about 11  and it's about every 3-4 hours that I think....hmmm I might need some food............
