3 days out and having pain

I am 3 days post op now and having those "what did I just do to myself" thoughts.  I had surgery on Monday, July 11th and was able to come home yesterday.  I am having pain in mostly the left side of my stomach which when I called the surgeon this morning they told me that is where the work was done.

Is this pain normal?  Should I be concerned?  How long did your pain last before you were mostly back to normal?

I had surgery 3 weeks ago today and I still have some pain.

Are you not taking your pain meds? You had major surgery, you WILL have some pain at this point. Just be extra nice to yourself, take your meds, drink your water, and try and move around a little.

Of course the pain is normal. You just had major surgery. Most of a major organ was removed.

Everything you're experiencing is normal! I was off my pain meds by day 4. I know others that took them through day 10. It's all normal. You did the right thing in calling the surgeon to ask. Don't ever hesitate if you think something is wrong. Things will get better every day. I felt pretty much back to myself by the end of the first week. On day three I posted a note here in the forum that said almost the same words as what you posted in your first sentence!! I was terrified to go through a weekend "alone" (meaning that the doc's office was closed). By the next morning, I was already feeling better. It LITERALLY got better every day. Remember that walking DOES help. My DH thought I was nuts because I'd start feeling funny or have a pain and I'd jump up and start walking through the house! You'll be fine... just hang in there for a few more days! PM me if you'd like to talk about anything!

I was lucky and had little pain that was gone in 2 days. Being as active as I could in the hospital did
wonders for me as far as reducing what pain I had. Like the other posters said use your pain meds
and keep hydrated with your fluids besides being as active as you can tolerate. If the pain persists after a week or two let your doc know. Let me know if I can help.

Day 3 was the worst ( for pain) in my opinion...you are off the morphine and have to take the liquid crap hydrocodone ( that I stopped taking day 5 because it was making me sick) and now you are relying on the meds that was prescribed to make you feel better along with walking. I was in soooo much pain but unlike you it was on the right side of my belly. Its day 12 for me and I still can't sleep on my right side due to pain and knots that form in those muscles when putting pressure on them. But it is not as bad as Day 3. Just hang in there it gets better and drink the PROTEIN it definitely helps with muscle healing and lessens the pain!

I was also sleeved July 11th, my doctor said to expect more pain on the left side "that's where the extra tissue is removed through". I'm also sore in that area but taking the pain meds and using a heating pad helps a lot. Hang in there.... get your fluids and protein in if you can.
