We are all in a hurry to lose a lot of weight.....
I know that we are all in a hurry to lose a lot of weight, but sometimes I think we forget to take a moment and think about where we ARE today......and how far we have come since we started the journey.....no matter where we are in the process.
I was reading a post about the surgeon saying that the poster would only lose 50 to 60% of their excess weight with a VSG. Then I read everyone's replies. I was looking at folks who have already lost more than 50 to 60% of their excess weight; and I was thinking -- "WOW ! How great for them !"
Then it HIT ME ! I have lost more than 50% of my excess weight !!!!
I do not know why this surprised me so much !!! I guess I have been so focused about being pissed off that my weight loss has slowed dramatically the past couple of weeks, and I want that 100 pound loss so much --- and to get that last pound under that to 199.....
THAT I FORGOT JUST HOW FAR I HAVE COME !!!!
If you are just in the application phase, look at the big decision you have made, look at the pound or two you have already taken off by mindful eating !!!
If you are newly post-op -- think about how much has changed since the "thinking about it" days ! think how much you have already achieved !!!!
I think sometimes I get so wrapped up in where I want to be, that I forget to enjoy where I am.

One thing I want to mention. Someone on here posted that a 60% EWL might be closer to what we wanted than we would think, because there was a VERY low "ideal weight".
So, I asked my nutritionist. She told me that they assume that the ideal weight for a 5" woman is 100 lbs, and they add 5 lbs for ea*****h of height.
You couldn't pay me enough to be 105 lbs!!!! I will feel amazing if I hit 125 - 130, and probably be wearing a size 4 or smaller! If I hit 60% of EWL, I would be 145. I plan to lose more than that, but the world would not end if that's where my body stopped losing; I would still be a size 8!
So, just a bit of perspective on the EWL thang.

I agree with the poster about our % of excess weight loss.....I cannot imagine being 110 lbs. I don't want to be 110 pounds.
I set my goal at 170; because that was about the weight I recall being at in graduate school, some 30 years ago, and feeling really GOOD about myself. I have never been "thin" --ever-- what I want is to feel good about myself; be healthy, and be able to physically do the things (well, most of the things) I could at that weight. -- I guess I do have to take into consideration the age difference and some joint issues aquired in the mean time !!!
So technically, it may be in the 75% range to 80% of what THEY state is my excess weight....but unless I have plastics to remove excess skin.....I can't imagine getting much below that.
