Is this the easy way?

For me, this surgery was not the easy way out of obesity; it was/is THE ONLY WAY OUT.

I had my surgery at 54 years old. I have probably lost and regained hundreds of pounds in 25 years of morbid obesity.

Over the past year of pre-op preperation (6 months) and now 6 months of post-op, I have lost 101 pounds !!!

I am not the fanatic -- I do allow myself to indulge in a small "treat" daily -- but what I have learned over this past year, is HOW TO LIVE a healthy lifestyle.

I now exercise at a Ladies Circuit Gym 4 days a week. I know what foods fuel my body the best; and what foods I should avoid. I know how to judge what a "portion" is now -- something I had never ever figured out before.

I work hard at my weight loss. I use every possible tool that I can. I MAKE TIME to exercise now. It has moved from the bottom of the list of things to do each day to darned near the top !!!!! I shop for the freshest fruits and vegetables, if I'm not growing it in my garden ! I buy the highest quality meats and fish I can afford, and prepare them carefully to get the best protein sources I can.

My family comes first, but I am back to being important in my own mind; and give myself permission to take care of myself.

EASY ? No way. Necessary ? You betcha.

It's all semantics really. It takes work, just now we have more reliable help. Compared to the hell many of us have been through, some call that easy.

I look at it this way. I used to work with someone from North Dakota. When it was 10 degrees outside he said, "that's not cold, it's 15below zero where my parents are in ND."  I told him that just because his parents are living in an area that is not meant to be inhabited by man year round doesn't mean that 10 degrees isn't cold on the human skin!

Really it's easy for those watching us lose the weight.

Call it what you want, we all have work to do, nutritionally, physically, and mentally, and I'm happy to do it.

Going "on" diets and have a bottomless PIT for a stomach was the hardest thing I'd ever done.  Falling "off" the wagon and taking days even months to years to get back on track was just as hard.

NOW I have little to no PHYSICAL hunger.  If I fall off the wagon today I'm back on track for the most part tomorrow.  This is easier then anything I've ever done.

If anyone tells me that I took the easy way out, I always tell them that I didn't have time to do it the hard way.  Let them think I'm lazy.  I could care less.  Let them come live one day in my life and think I'm lazy.  I did this for me and for my husband, and the family we are trying to create.  Not one day has been easy, but every day has been worth it.
