I think my infection is back.
What antibiotics do they have you taking? Ask your doctor if this might be appropriate for you: metronidazole oral 500mg 3x daily AND vancomycin oral 250mg 4x daily for 14 to however many days.
That's what our patients get in the hospital... though it might not be right for every person's body, it's worth asking your surgeon about it.
Also, a warning-- the vancomycin can be VERY expensive, so if your insurance won't cover the tablets (only brand name available right now) ask the pharmacy to compound an oral solution and you can get the same drug for about $150 compared to $1800.00 (what a patient of mine did last week who didn't have insurance coverage for the drug).

Crunchy - thanks! Did the metronidazole for 10 days. Then had severa allergic reaction! Plus got the infection back. Then did Vanco for 14 days. Infection returned! Now on Vanco again, 4x daily again, but for 6 weeks with a taper at the end, followed by another drug (forgot the name). Luckily my insurance covers it and my copay is $40.

Let me tell you, we are in the same boat. ITS HORRIBLE. I too got C Dif because of the sleeve surgery. The pre surgery antibiotics did it to me. I had surgery july 22 and 3 days after it hit me hard! I ended up back in the hospital for a total of 2 weeks because of the C dif, i am now home and on Flagyll 3 times a day and Vancomyacin 4 times a day, plus all of my other medicine. My symptoms have seemed to clear up some, but still having problems with the URGENT diarreah. (SP) I am praying for you! We will get through this! They say anything worth having is worth working for, and i am telling you if they dont count running to the toilet as working they are wrong! LOL
Ugh, so sorry you are with me on this one. But let's stay in touch and keep each other upbeat! I am now on Vanco on a taper dose. This is my third round.

Thanks Carmelita! I'm actually a microbiologist (but not in a clinical setting) so I'm very familiar with good vs bad bugs. But there's no such thing as "no room" for bad bugs with the good. There are many situations where they all live in harmony. Many people carry c diff with no symptoms. But apparently I am not one of them!
Been pushing the probiotics like crazy and unfortunately it hasn't kept the c diff away. As a sporeformer, it's a brute. Like a cameleon.
Doc's putting me on two drugs to fix this. But anytime I have antibiotics or surgery in the future, I'll always be a potential c diff risk. But what are you gonna do? Just gotta keep living life. Always been a fan of probiotics and will continue to be a fan. Just not gonna rid me of this right now.
