So I just got my date and I'm so excited and terrified at the same time.   Wondering what to expect the first week after surgery.  I also have a wedding to go to 2 1/2 weeks after surgery that I hope I can make.  So many questions and just curious on everyones recovery time.  I know everyone is different but would love to hear from you.

I'm getting having the vertical sleeve.  Did you have your surgery?  If so what type and when?

Had Gastric bypass on 4/27/11; down 91 lbs.
Two days in the hospital and two days nearby....released and lost 17 lbs in the first two weeks.
Very controlled pain; 1-2 in hospital and 0-1 at home.  Found sleeping elevated and making sure i used the spirometer worked great.  Spirometer is breathing excerise.  U'll get it at the hospital.

The first few months were difficult but it is getting easier every day.

I would do it all again for sure.

Keep in touch

91lbs that's awesome, you should be proud.

When you say the first few months were difficult do you mean mentally or physically?

Congrats on getting you're date. If you're surgery goes like mine you have notjhing to worry about. Mine went smooth as silk with minimal pain (only a 3 on the 10 scale) and was gone in 2 days, no complcations 61 days out and feel absolutely great.

That's great, I hope I'm as lucky as you.  I know a few people who have had WLS and the recovery has been so different for everyone.  Some people were in bed for days and out of work for weeks and others were back to work after 4 days because they had a desk job.  I knew one guy who played basketball 1 week out from RNY.... not the smartest thing to do but he felt good enough.

I think that will be a great idea.  This forum is wonderful.  I have been watching it for a while now and have learned so much.

Congratulations!! I'm only 10 days out, and other than a few hiccups in the first couple of days, I've done pretty well. I haven't quite tapped into the energy that people speak of, because mostly, I'm tired. But I know I'm feeling better, because I've been doing some light cleaning around the house because it's starting to annoy me!! I know I'm feeling better if the house not being clean is more important to me than feeling crummy!! Anyway, best wishes! I hope it all goes off without a hitch!!
