I'm having flash backs: A few years ago I had an endometrial ablation, d&c, blood transfusion because my period was SO heavy. 2 days before my surgery date 08/01/11 I came on my period and it ended. 7days after surgery my period revisited me and came ON VERY STRONG. The last 24 hours it has been super heavy and large blood clots ranging from golf balls size to tennis balls size. Whenever I stand or go to bathroom they drop out of my panties onto the floor or toilet. I couldnt wait till this morning to call my pcp. I called the office and left a message for MY pcp regarding my issue. The nurse called and said for me to come in and pick up some sample birth control pills. I informed her that I could not  come in the office without making a mess. So they advised to have someone come in and picked them up for me and do a follow up next week. The name of the birth control is SAFYRAL which i never heard of. And I havent been on birth control in ages. I had a tubal done. I was instructed to take 2 a day until bleeding stop and then 1 a day until the box was done. Per nurse, my pcp states it is normal after major surgery. WARNING to those that may not know your period may get heavy. I sure hope taking these temporarily does not interfere with weight loss or gain. Just a fyi to the ladies BE AWARE.

I have also experienced some changes in my cycle. I have bled for over 2 weeks and spotted off and on. I have had more cramps than prior to surgery. It's been very different. I hope things get back to normal soon. My GYN told me to wait it out, she did not start me on any BCPs. I hope the BCPs help! I hope it passes soon and you get back to the land of the living. I am praying for you!

I also had a very heavy cycle after the surgery. I had some problems in the past and just had the Novasure uterine ablation last Friday. I sure hope this stops the problems I had.

Humm, Novasure uterine ablation. That's new one on me. All I can tell you that my ablation was a dream come true it made me feel normal again and my period was light. In fact very light until now. My ablation was done in 2006. It seems to me this is pretty common in some. I noticed that since I have taken the birth control from this morning my period has slowed down alot and I have not seen anymore blood clots. Almost, competely over. I tired to call the 24hr nurse line it must be very busy; no one was avail the recording advised me to leave a message. I may call them back because I want to know if this will be happening next month and so on. I know they may not know exactly but since its very common I like to see if there is any answers. I'm pretty sure you will be satisified with the surgery. Best wishes to you!

Just an update. I spoke with a nurse at bariatric hospital which stated that some people after having surgery experience heavy bleeding and blood clots that it is common because the body goes thru horomonal changes. And the weight loss sometimes will throw the body off balance. She (Nurse) metioned age and if I maybe going thru menopause factors into it also. She stated the reason the pcp put me on birthcontrol is to control and stop the bleeding. She advised me to do a follow up with pcp to see if i need to contiune the pills until it get under control  which may can take a month or may have to consider redoing my ablation to get things back to normal or consider other alternatives to end it. But, she said the pills should bring it back to a balance. Also, she was going to let my surgeon know as well. Since I've starting taking the birth control this morning it has stopped. I'm going to remain hopefully. Just heads up for those that may not be aware of these kind of issues. Yikes!

I have noticed severe changes too, but in the opposite direction.. .. 2-3 days of super light spotting and the "blood" is always brownish like it is stuck.. my pcp wont do anything but it is worrisome since I have been like clockwork since I started.

Oh, wow! I guess the surgery really does have an effect on some. I'm very surprise that your PCP thinks it is normal. If it keeps happening for a long time my assumption would be to complain. I would defintely be concern, especially with the color.  I hope things get to flowing for you normally.
