I'm 2-1/2 months post up.
And now I have these two conditions.  Just wondering if it's common among other "sleevers" or if it was just the luck of the draw that it's happening to me?

I developed Supraventricular Tachycardia one week after having the VSG, and subsequently had a cardiac ablation with success. I'm a little on the hyperthyroid side, and I was not before VSG.

I developed afib before my surgery and was going into congestive heart failure................. 4 months after surgery was able to stop all meds for this. Before my surgery I was given 3 yrs to live at 420 pounds, this surgery was a life saver for me!!!!!! I have never heard of it happening to other sleevers, most were diagnosed before there surgeries. Good luck in your journey!!

Wow!! When I saw the title of your post I was surprised.
I have had both conditions pre op.....probably since 2005 or before.
I take meds for both and the combo plus meds was one of the reason I had VSG instead of other WLS.

Both are very controllable with meds (but the blood thinner for AF is a pain in the neck). And can be very inter-related. Sometimes they are able to convert AFIB to regular rhythm. In my case, the cardiologist wants to wait until goal.

I think you just got the luck of the draw, though, as a post op.

Thank you for your reply - I have been getting great information back.
(Yep, the blood thinner thing is wacko - I started with 4 pills a day, cut back to 2 and still my blood got way too thin - guess I really react to that stuff.)

Interesting, my TSH has been going down steadily since surgery so am becoming hyperthyroid.
Only problem is my symptoms are just like hypothyroid, including no weight loss but the endo doc thinks I may actually be eating too little and told me to increase my calories. I am trying that, and lost 5 pounds right away but then went up 3 but I didn't eat much over the weekend. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

What are your other labs?  TSH is a very rough measure and it changes during the day.    Right now my TSH is on the low side, but my Free T4 and other values are fine. My resting HR is 56.

17 years ago hen I was hyperthyroid -- truly hyperthyroid due to Graves' Disease --  my resting HR was over 100 despite my good fitness level (I biked 10 miles each way to work and back every day, did triathalons, etc.).  I shook, sweated,  and had "pressured speech" (i.e., I ran on at 90 mph). Of course, I was REALLY hyperthyroid. My metabolism was running at 600% based on my uptake scan results.

I underwent I-131 therapy which knocked out my thyroid.  I'm on a complete replacmeent dose -- .225mg/day of levoxyl.  Interestingly enough, that hasn't changed despite losing 120lbs (ish).  My TSH has gone down.

Sorry, but you're talking to someone with "Math Anxiety" that was way too many numbers for me to follow (although, I do remember my doc saying "T4" when trying to explain it to me.
I just wanted to tell you that one other part of my problem, is that I'm allergic to Iodine so if they can't control it with meds, I'm probably going to have to have surgery.  But I don't want to pre-worry that.
Anyway - thank you for your reply.
