I just finished lunch right now......

From the freezer......left over in a pre-proportioned packed zip lock ......About 2oz. Crock Pot Beef with onions, mushrooms red bell peppers and a little bleu cheese crumble.....Total around 3oz. of food.

Been the same since 4-5 months out.

Could I eat more??? Probably.....but why? I feel VERY Satisfied !

It kind of follows another thing I try and do...."Leave while your still having a good time"

I use the deck of cards method.....the key is that you have to be able to imagine how non dense foods will compress down to after chewing.

Frisco - a question for you if I may.

I'm 4 months out today. I serve myself 2 oz of protein each meal and fini**** about half the time (the denser the protein, the less likely I am to finish - I almost always finish tuna, sometimes chicken/turkey, never beef). I have 3 meals, supplement with 2 protein shakes.

Here's the question: at what point did you start adding in some veggies? I could get my 80g protein and still be well within my calories if I went 1 1/2 oz meat and started a little veggie at this point (I'd need to get a whopping 5 more grams of protein in each shake), but I don't see any point in serving myself more than 2 oz yet.

I admire the way you handle food, and my goal is NOT to eat a lot more (wouldn't mind another ounce of capacity, but there's still time, I think). So wanted to get your thoughts.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

I didn't really start eating veggies, fruit or carb laced food till after about 11 months at my first goal weight and down 170lbs. or so......

My doc told me to start adding fiber back into my diet.......

I still eat very little fruit.....frozen strawberries or blueberries in protein shakes a couple times a week.

I add veggies to my meals for taste and texture.....so not much because protein is the key...... So what I do now is have veggie only snacks. Artichoke, green beans, broccoli, asparagus, edamame, cucumber, coleslaw.......

A formula I kinda go by in maintenance is 3-2-1

3 parts protein
2 parts veggies
1 part carbs

I will tell you...the most important thing is to under eat your capacity.....it is much better to eat less and add a meal. Preserving restriction for long term is what it's all about !!!!

I am curious to hear responses... I am 4 months out and feel like I eat quite a bit.  I don't eat much at a sitting, but I definitely do the 3 small meals, 3 snacks throughout the day.  Do others still snack?  I workout everyday, and just feel shaky, hungry if I don't have a little something every 3-4 hours.

Not at goal yet so 600-800 cal and less than 40 carbs--

Bfast:  Premier Protein shake (drink it in the car on the way to work) 160 cal 30 pro 5 carb
Lunch: 2.5 oz seared Prime beef top loin: 185 cal 20 pro 0 carb
Snack: 11.5 oz Low Sodium V-8 70 cal 3 pro 15 carb
Dinner: 3 oz  Seared scallops 120 cal 20 pro 0 carb
Snack: .5 oz  Roasted almonds 85 cal 2 pro 3 carb

Sometimes I have cucumber slices with hummus for a snack, or it's still cherry season so I'll have 6 or 7 cherries, but then I have to omit the V-8.  Usually I have some kind of beef once a day and seafood or fish once a day.  I eat 3 oz of shrimp or fish--I have trouble eating chicken but turkey is okay so I have that, 2 or 3 oz, or an egg, for breakfast on the weekend.  I measure or weigh everything still.

Breakfast is almost always an egg with a  little cheese.  Sometimes I add a slice of bacon, sausage (turkey or boca) and a bite of fruit for a weekend brunch/breakfast.  If it's a special meal for someone's birthday, I make a quiche or a frittata and have a tiny slice-- leave the crust on the plate.

Try to get a glass of water in with the vitamins before breakfast.   I grab a large mug of coffee 1/2 hour past breakfast, and try to get 20-40oz water and/or no carb/cal juice drinks like Sobe before lunch.

Lunch is 2-3 oz lean protein,  a chicken leg or thigh with some veggies from dinner the night before,  a small salad with half a chicken breast or some turkey ham, corned beef or ham spread with a bit of light cream cheese and wrapped around a dill pickle, or I grab a steak burrito- hold the rice- at Taco Bell, eat the filling and leave the tortilla.   I keep cans of tuna, salmon and chicken at my desk for when I forgot to pack lunch and can't get away.   Got to remember to grab my calcium and D chews.....

More water/juice afterwards.  When I'm paying attention, I get my 64 oz before dinner.  When I'm slacking, I get a headache.

I have a handful of nuts, greek yogurt, or string cheese for a snack in the afternoon.

Dinner is another 2-3 oz of protein  with veggies of some sort, and sometimes I have a bite of whole wheat bread or pasta, or quinoa, or other low glycemic, high fiber carb.   My "junk food" dinners are hot wings, meatballs with marinara, sausages made with cheese in them, but usually we have fresh lean poultry, pork, or fish (grilled, roasted, braised, rarely fried).  I still enjoy beef, but as it has higher calories and costs more, we have it less often.   I still eat cheese often, but now instead of basing a meal on it, I use it to flavor other, healthier proteins.

Rarely, once every 2 weeks or so, I have a bite--seriously--one teaspoon--of ice cream or cookie if the Hubby's having desert.   Time for another calcium chew.

More water, my evening pills, and then it's bedtime.

I lost 100 lbs for my 5 month mark, 6 is coming up next week, so we'll see where I'm at in 2 weeks from the doctor.  I'm wearing 2X tops, down from 5X.   I'm walking better, looking better, feeling better!!!  I am not hungry, eat sensibly without feeling deprived of anything, and am continuing to lose weight.
