what my surgeon said was that when surgeons use a 32 or 36 that they put the staple line farther away from the tube in the tummy. whereas he uses a 40 BUT he staples right along the line against the tube the anesthesiologist puts in ur tummy so its a snug 40
starting weight: 341, goal weight: 150, 1st goal: 250, 2nd goal: 199, final goal: 150

Hey,

I saw this post in a search about bougie sizes.  I made a post a month or so ago about bougie size.  Can you tell me how it has gone with your size 40 since you posted this in August.  I initially had cancelled my surgery becuase of this concern but have had some follow-up conversations with the Dr.'s office that has made me reconsider.  Would be super helpful to find out how you, or others with a size 40 have done (just as a last minute reassurance--I hope).

Thanks,

Rae

I was one of the first sleeves done at my kaiser.  I have a 40f.  People done after me got a 34 or 36, I can't remember which.  It took them awhile to get over fear of leaks etc, or at least that's what I think.  Some people get oversewn, I don't think I did.

I'm almost 23 months out and very happy. I lost slower than most and cursed a lot, but my motto has always been,  it's not how fast we get there, but where we are at five years out.  I think it's more what we do with it and how we nurture it that counts in the long run.

I just know I'm so much healthier and happier than I was in February 2010!

what are the differences concerning any 'complications' regarding bougie size (say a 32 vs a 40)  or is it all the same.  i can't recall where i've read it (on here but not which posts) where people said the smaller the bougie the more risk for leaks, strictures and reflux disease.
