Second reduction of blood pressure meds!!!
So peeps, I am pretty excited. Not only have I crossed the 60 pounds lost threshold, but I also got to reduce my BP meds for the second time! I used to be on 1.5 pills per day, reduced to one within a month after surgery. And my BP has been dropping some more, so today my PCP said I could drop to half a pill! I am super excited about this, not just because of losing weight, but because I have another contributing medical issue that I thought would never allow me to get off BP meds. But now I think it might be possible!!
I suffered significant kidney damage when I was 12 after a horrendous kidney infection that kept me in the hospital for 6 days. I now have only one functioning kidney. When I started BP meds in my mid-20's, the theory was that my kidneys contributed. Of course, I was no skinny mini either. But now that I'm down to half a pill, I'm feeling like it might be possible to drop them altogether in the future. Even if I can't, that's ok. I understand that I may not be able to kiss them good-bye completely. But HOPE feels good!
On a side note, my PCP is super. She listens, is supportive, and has totally been behind me with VSG. She didn't even know what it was when I first told her about my intentions. But she is thoroughly impressed with my progress and is a fan of VSG now. Love her!
