Halloween Horrors x post

We get 300+ kids at our door so we have to have a boat load of candy. Last year I was out of town and the year before was two weeks before my surgery so I had my last close encounter with peanut butter cups.

So this year I decided that I just couldn't have any chocolate or candy I like in the house. So I proceeded to buy a lot of icky Halloween candy. What I got was "Dots" that are blue and look like ghosts, strawberry twizzlers (ok these aren't too bad) glow in the dark pumpkin lolly pops, tootsie pops (again tolerable) and some kind of gummy bear things. Also some taffee and a package of little plastic rings with bats and spiders on them.

And I will have a few friends here and we will eat healthy snacks and drink wine and wear witch hats. How is everybody handling the Halloween candy issue?      Diane

Absolute avoidance. I even packed an extra protein shake for work. When I got here one of the sups had a variety of cookies and mini cakes; I just walked by and didn't even look.

This is my new life and I'm not trading it in or sabotaging it for anything! There may be times down the road where I might crave and decided to have one piece of candy or a small bite of cookie but not now. :o)

I hid the candy in the garage so I "forgot" about it - but the smartest thing I did was schedule my 1 year post op for this Wednesday. There is no way I'm retaining water from the carbs in the candy for my official 1 year weigh in!!!!!

Truthfully, I low/no carb so I'm just not craving it which helps me forget about that ginormous stash of candy in the garage.

Hope everyone has an easy untempting fun night!

My son refuses to share any of his treats with me until i get to a medium size (he says meteor, cute 5 year old talk, this is his word for a normal size) so i dont get his. At work today they have all kinds of yummy treats, i looked at the assortment and went to work, ate my normal stuff then decided on 1 treat that i would get. just one! the day is half over and so far that one treat is satisfying enough. i am sucking down my water and eating my apples and carrots :)
I also keep reminding myself how lethargic i get after i eat anything with alot of sugar in it and the headaches, stomachaches and the grumpiness too!

I'll probably only get 10 kids stop by but  I refuse to sit in the dark like last year to avoid them.
So this am I was going to stop and buy just 1 bag of candy bars.  Afraid there might be leftovers.

SO----little kids will be able to reach into my change bucket and pull out a handful of pennies, dimes or nickles.  If big kids = big hands------I'll do the distribution. I do want some leftover change!!!

I don't give out candy.  My neighborhood is pretty, ummm, "mature" and we don't get a lot of traffic.  I did it for a few years and then stopped.  Didn't seem worth the effort.

On the other hand, I'm the candy store at work.  There's probably 10 pounds of various candy sitting in baskets and containers in my office for folks to help themselves.  Candy doesn't call to me - except Reese's peanut butter cups.  I'm pretty sure they're hand-made in hell by Satan himself.  That's the only candy that's forbidden from my office, 'cause I can't stay away from them and I can't eat just one!

Glow sticks. Michaels had tubes of 10 glow sticks for a dollar so we bought a dozen tubes and each kid will get a glow stick, activated as we hand them out and shaped into a bracelet for them.

Mostly avoidance... we have left our neighborhood and headed to a friends house every year for the last few. She makes a few pizzas, we have drinks and have fun with the kids, and thus have no candy at our place.. This year my friend is actually making a lo-carb pizza! Really nice of her! They don't hand out anything I love (like Snickers) so, not tempted there.. the drinks, well.. I may have one martini..

Jo - where does your friend live. I'd like to go trick or treating where they hand out martinis!

The candy wasn't an issue for trick-or-treaters. I live alone, so I went to the store on Friday (2 stores, actually - one already had their Halloween displays down on 10/28!) and found 2 bags of candy that I absolutely dislike. They were bigger bags than I thought, and only had about 3 dozen kids this year, so there are a lot of leftovers. Fortunately, I work in an elementary school, so next week I will take the bag in and let the teachers/students go crazy with it.

Work today was much more difficult to avoid. Parents make/send in goodies for their kid's class. We have our parade from 9-10:30 (6 grades x about 15 minutes per grade to walk the looooooooong block around the school), and since I'm not a classroom teacher, I get posted at one of the street corners for that time. And boy, was it cold today! After I got back, the parties were in full swing until noon dismissal. One thing this year that was a godsend was our principal sending a memo to homeroom teachers that there was no reason for students to take 'extra goodies' to other classrooms since each classroom has their own goodies, and those of us without homerooms could stop by for what we wanted. Well, I took that as an opportunity to shut my little door and get some work done and NOT wander to classrooms in search of chocolatey goodness. I am certain there will be leftover goodies in the faculty room all this week - BUT - tomorrow I have to take half a sick day for an endocrinologist appointment, and over Wednesday's lunch I have my appointment with the medically-supervising-my-weight-loss doctor. That means it should be slim pickins' by Thursday and I'm sure I can handle two measley days of temptation.

Congrats to y'all for creative Halloweening!
