Two Years Out and Lovin' It
Hi all;
I mostly hang around the vsg maintenance group but thought my two year aniversary was worth a shout. I lost 125 lbs in a little under a year and have a bmi of 20.8. I have maintained the weight loss for a year now. My DH just got sleeved last week and its sort of fun to revisit my journey even though I feel for him having nothing but protein drinks for two weeks. He likes to "look" at whatever I have for dinner.
Looking back, this has been one of the best experiences of my life. I now live life as it should be with minimal health issues (none related to weight) and the energy to do whatever I want. I no longer have to stop and think whether I can or can't do something because of weight like ride a horse or shop all day or sit in a chair with arms. Yes I have given up eating big amounts of sweets and carbs but its a small price to pay for all I have received in exchange. I have made a good deal indeed. No more peanut butter cups but probably 10 years more of higher quality life - a more than fair exchange.
I have learned that what I eat should be very good food and I can afford expensive things like high quality seafood because I am not eating such big amounts. No need for big quantities. And I really appreciate fresh fruit or a good cheese in a small amount.
If you are on the fence about this, go ahead and take the leap. I struggled with the concept of having most of a healthy stomach removed but finally decided that in its original configuration my stomach was making me sick by enabling overeating so it really wasn't healthy and needed to be downsized.
For those of you beginning this journey I wish you the best and hope it will prove to be as rewarding as it has been for this former lifelong fattie.
And yeah I am cooking the Thanksgiving meal this year. I will eat turkey and small amounts of the accompanying things but will send the leftovers home with guests and be content.
Have great holidays.
Diane

Great to read posts like this. Thanks for sharing your success.
I'm curious.. was your DH always interested in the surgery or was it more that after watching your tribulations he decided he wanted to jump aboard too. My hubby is overweight he's very active though and is super strong but he yo yo diets and always gains back the weight. He claims he'd never do what I am about to do.
I am secretly hoping I will be such a success story and so happy that he will join in too.

Thanks Diane.
I love hearing from vets. It was so important to me especially early on to hear that it really was possible to get to a normal weight and maintain, and more importantly, hearing HOW you guys make it work. Having you vets stick around makes a difference.
Happy Thanksgiving.
