3 meals, no snacks vs 5/6 small meals?

So, my surgeon says to stick to 3 meals and that's it. I see a lot of people here do meals and snacks. What are your opinions on 3 full meals vs the 3 meals with snacks or the 5-6 small meals?

One dr I had said calories are calories no matter when you consume them and another said the more often you eat, the faster  your metabolism will be. The surgeon only wants 3 meals a day so I don't get in to grazing, but I'm kind of leaning towards the boosting metabolism idea.

My question is what has worked for you guys as far as optimal weight loss? Eating more often or less often?

Studies how that normal weight adults, and those who've lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off, tend to eat more often.  On average, they eat three meals and two snacks.  The longer you go in between meals, the more likely you are to overeat.

I tried 3 meals with no snacks, it did not work for me. My sugar would drop too low and leave me feeling like crap. So I do a small snack between meals (usually a cheese stick or something like that).

I agree with Biscuit. Your new sleeve will feel much better if you eat 5-6 mini-meals over 3 meals...the sleeve will feel uncomfortable at first if you eat more than 1-2 oz ...my weight slows when i skip mini-meals.

Thanks guys. :) I love how everyone talks about the sleeve like it's its own little entity inside our body separate from us.

It kinda is it's own little entity after it has been reduced. it is hard to explain, like it has a mind of it's own when it comes to eating and drinking;a mind of it's own that it didn't have prior to losing 3/4's of itself. you will understand that part when your sleeve comes home with you, lol.

There is a difference in eating six small meals and "grazing. Grazing is eating a handful of nuts here,a bite of protein bar there,a chip or two that surely can't hurt 3 grapes,a bite of your family's mac and cheese. See where I am going here?

Grazing is unplanned eating. Eating 6 *planned* meals a day of high protein, nutrition dense foods is totally different.

I am in the eat to stoke your metabolism camp myself.

And,sorry, and please forgive the question, but ummm, what happened to your eyes in your avie?
Good luck,
Holly

Jeepers creepers, where'd you get those peepers? I was trying to find a way to blur part of my face but I couldn't figure it out sooo the nex best thing was erasing my eyes. I want people here to be able to somewhat see who I am because I like to see who everyone else is... but I don't want people from my life to absolutely know that it's ME if they stumble onto the page. They may think it is, but they will never know for sure and they wouldn't dare ask... especially people from work (evil ladies).  I haven't told many people what I'm doing and I don't want them to have extra things to say about me. So really it was just to keep SOME form of anonymity (sp?) while also sharing some of myself with you guys.

my surgeon suggests eating small meals gearing up to 600/800 calories VS trying to overeat @ 3 meals a day.

I posted a very similar question last week.  Can't find the thread right now, but I got mixed answers.

I personally do 5-6 mini-meals per day.  Otherwise I'd be stuffing my sleeve full on three meals a day to try and get the protein grams I need.  And I worry that stuffing myself may lead to increased sleeve capacity in the long run.
