Excessive thirst

I had sleeve surgery a week ago.  Prior to surgery, I could easily guzzle a botttle of diet green tea to quench my thirst.  Now, having to sip slowly and only drink small amounts at the time, I cannot seem to satisfy my thirst.  (Have controlled diabetes.  Any connection with that to the thirst?)  My surgeon says not to drink too much.  What amount sHOULD I be drinking now?  Suggestions please!  Thanks!

I could drink a couple of 16 oz. bottles a day by one week out. I just always kept one with me and sipped all day.

Your body is healing and it throws the metabolic situation for a loop.  My first week or so, I registered highs, then a week or two later, lows.  Insulin production or resistance is nutty during this phase of post op for some of us.

Have you continued to monitor your bgl?

My surgeon insists on 64 ounces or more of liquids everyday. I have to say that is very hard to do the first couple weeks. I don't think  I actually got to that amount until at least 1 month out. I also take a bottle of water with me everywhere and sip, sip, sip all day long.
It does get easier as time goes and I now have no problems getting the 64 ounces in most days.
