Are all those reviews REAL? Dr...

So I'm recently reading up on Dr Alvarez in Mexico that has done thousands of sleeves and I found the reviews on him. I hate that I think this way but can all those reviews be REAL? Seriously, nobody hated the guy or had a bad experience? I read MOST of the 400 reviews and only came across one bad review. ONE? Really? I guess I'm a paranoid person but this guy sounds too good to be true!
..and yes, I'm considering him as my possible surgeon. Would love to hear from more of you, specifically any of you that were timid to cross the border for a surgery. I do have a concern that if something goes wrong once I'm home, I'm up a creek w/o a paddle.

Hi there,
I was concerned about going to TJ but could not afford the surgery in the states. My surgeon was the best I could find in Mexico. He has an international reputation, has lectured at Yale, taught in the US and Europe and has less than a 1% complication rate. I was very pleased with my care with Dr. Lopez Corvala. He makes himself and/or his staff available via phone & email and if you can he loves to do physical follow up. I just had my 2 week appointment today. The hospital that he uses is excellent. It is more like a hotel than a hospital. I was very impressed.

So you had surgery with Dr. Corvala and not Alverez? I get nervous having no preop exam before I even leave the country. Were you worried about this. What kind of tests did you do once you got there? It makes me really nervous but I REALLY want this done. Will they share the cost with you (out of pocket) up front? How is recovery? Thanks in advance for your help. Also, my friend who had it here had 2 weeks of liquids only and I am wondering why he does not require that.
I am a Dr. Alvarez patient. I wasn't nervous at all since I had spoken with several people that had surgery with him and told me all about their experiences. I also read most of those reviews as well when checking out his website. I'm not at all surprised that so many people have so many amazing things to say about him. He's a great guy and more importantly a great surgeon. (Reminds me... I need to write a review still, lol)
I had an incredible experience getting my sleeve done with Dr. A. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
If you have any questions for me I'm more than happy to answer them. Good luck with you decision.

Dr. Alvarez is a fantastic surgeon from what I've read on this site and many others. As a matter of fact, if I could afford him, I would go there! He charges around 8700$ I believe? Don't quote me on that. There is a doctor in Arlington, TX that charges 10,900 for a sleeve surgery so he's not much cheaper than an American doctor BUT his record is near impeccable. I can't afford 8700 or 10,900 unfortunately without completely putting my family in the hole so I have to go with a surgeon who is around 5000$ or so. I am going to Tijuana at the beginning of February but I'm not too nervous. I definitely won't be going anywhere at night or alone! Good luck in your search.
Loads of us here on OH are Dr. Alvarez's patients, and he is just as excellent as everything you will read. I had a top-notch experience with him and have not had the first problem since. You will not be sorry if you choose him. Best wishes!

You can certainly believe what you read on Dr.A, he is FANTASTIC. I had surgery with him over a year ago and have nothing glowing reviews for him and his staff. My experience from getting the initial info from his staff, travel, surgery and aftercare have been nothing but the best!! You will certainly not regret choosing Dr.A.
