Working out and additional protein?

I have been running for 30 min a day and lifting weights for 30 min a day for 6 days a week.

I was told that I should increase my protein. I usually manage about 60 grams a day.

Anybody know how much protein I should be taking in and why?

Thanks,
donna

I believe it should be anywhere between 80 and 100 grams. I work out about as much as you and I'm taking in about that much and don't have any problems with strength, stamina, hair loss, etc.

When I first had the surgery...my NUT said to get in about a minimum of 45 grams and work up to 65. I've since seen her several times and as I increased my exercise and protein grams...they were happy to see that I can average about 87-90 a day....if not more.

Best of luck!

Just curious to see if you think that the extra protein is helping with or keeping hair loss at bay.

My protein target from my surgeon was 64-78g per day based on my height (5'3"). Because of my activity level (running, lifting, etc), I stay in the 80-90g/day range.

You need protein to build muscles, and I can't speak for anyone else, but I start to crave it if I'm not getting enough. I eat protein before I exercise and drink a whey protein isolate (highly digestible) afterwards.  Per my Nut and my trainer, you don't want more than 32.5g protein in a single sitting.

After surgeriers and in addition after exercise you are breaking down mustle and it needs protein to repair itself.  I would say any amount is a good amount.  I used to drink a protein shake after, or eat some cheese or jerky.

With that amount of work out I would say get it up over  or right around 100, you will lose muscle if you don't.

I think one of the most important things you can do it to make sure you drink a protein shake ASAP (at least within one hour) or doing weight training. That will help with muscle building.
