Anyone have IV in hand
I have horrible shallow veins that blow really easy too. 2 weeks ago it took 3 attempts just to draw blood, my hand was attempted twice and both blew out. Ice pack for first 24 hours then warm compress for however long it takes for the pain to go away. The warm compress (I use a heating pad with a warm washcloth between it and my hand) really helps. I've had the pain last up to 2-3 weeks before. If this doesn't work then call your dr by all means.

I am 14 days out and mine is still sore too! not where the IV actually was inserted, but a little further up in my hand in the vein. Hubby still can't hold that hand due to the soreness!! :/ I'm sure it will be fine in another week or so.

If there is redness, swelling or purulent drainage (puss), you should call your doctor. If it's just bruised or sore, it's probably normal and will go away.
It's very common to start IVs in people's hands. The rule is that IVs should be started distally (farthest away from middle of body) first and then moved up the arm as necessary to preserve vein function. The reality is that some IV starters are better at hitting veins in a certain part of the hand/wrist/arm and have a "go-to" place that they try first. Mine is the inner forearm, especially in hard sticks, and next the hand.

If it's a nerve damage type pain... numbness, tingling, etc, you should see your doctor. Otherwise, I'm with those who say just to wait it out if it's normal bruising type pain with no redness or drainage.
Vein on the back of my left hand was ruined from an IV years ago. Took a while for the pain to stop, and the vein is now just a shadow of it's former self. It happens. Your vein may never be the same again. Luckily, we have plenty of veins in the back of the hand to take over if one is damaged.
