successfully jogged 1/4 mile today!
i'm starting to train for a 5k in april and a 10k in august.
today i jogged (at 3.2 mph) for 5 minutes and did .25 miles. normally i can only go a minute and a half at atime but was so proud of doing 5 minutes i had to share.
aiming to run 3 times a week and increase distance/time each week. keep thinking of how good i'll feel at that finish line.

You're a little ahead of me, weight wise, but I'm getting close to starting a break-in running program too. I've been reading that interval training is the best way to start....run 20 seconds, walk for 40 seconds, for example. They also recommend increasing weekly, not to try to go up too fast. All this reading has made me excited about the prospect of getting started, but I'm also afraid of failing miserably, because I know just how hard it is to get started. I used to love running (20 years and 100 pounds ago), and look forward to trying it again.
Great job and good luck to you. Hopefully I'll be joining you soon!

the couch to 5k program talks about intervals, i did try that, i just have no patience and am an immediate gratificaiton kind of person. lol. (hence the eating disorder that pushed me to have surgery!). i was up to 1.5 min of walk/running but just had a few minutes to spare today and decided to go for it to see if i could do it.
good luck to you!
good luck to you!
Impressive goal and plan.
I'm working my way up to 5K also. I have no intention of running in a race, but I am up to 1.5 miles a couple of times per week. I'm less ambitious. I'll probably spend the rest of the month at 1.5 and work my way to 2 next month. I want to be at 3 miles by the end of May. I'm pretty casual about it since I'm not interested in running in a race.
Hang in there. Don't forget to stretch!!

how awesome to be up to 1.5 miles!!!! i'm jealous!!!!
my dad (who's 65) runs 2-3 miles daily and said he'll do the 5k with me if i'm ready. i think its sweet that he'll run slow for his ridiculously out of shape daughter. lol. i just realized it's almost march so i better get cracking on the training if i want to be able to do it!

I can remember before surgery, I could not run for 60 seconds. Now that I have 58lbs off of me so far, I am now running 40 minute for a distance of 3.5 miles. Just keep increasing your distance and you'll get there. Sign up for the race ASAP, that can work as your motivator, Good Luck.
