 So my question is:

- Did you have hunger post-op?
Not actual hunger pain, or growling. I do feel kinda achy in the stomach area, like an empty sensation, after about 2 to 3 hours from eating. So I try to eat all my protein for each meal to help keep me feeling full longer, and save my protein shake for the evening as a final boast before bed.

- If yes, when did it start?
I noticed it about 4 weeks post op. More or less once I started back at work, and wasn't able to eat at will. Sometimes it just reminds me to drink as well, if I went a half hour without drinking too.

- Did it go away?
It hasn't. It became more noticeable once I started on solid foods. I definitely need to plan my meals well, and make sure I eat on schedule, which is about every 3 hours. If I do this and keep drinking my fluids, I feel fine. It is also very noticeable once I ran out of my PPI. Guess I should to get that filled soon!

I am 4 weeks out and have not felt hunger yet. I have to remind myself it I should eat something. I have had mental hunger though with the food smells and things people around me were eating:( I know it is mental and I may always battle that

From the posts I read here, it seems that:
- Many people have post-op hunger
- Most newbie on the board seem to think they won't have hunger after surgery

It's my mission to help pre-ops understand that there is a  chance that they will have hunger still, after surgery!

So my question is:
- Did you have hunger post-op?
- If yes, when did it start?
- Did it go away?
I am on my fouth day post op. today.
And
So my question is:
- Did you have hunger post-op? Yes it really started today, everything sounds good and looks good on TV.

- Did it go away? I am on liquids now,  and once I drink some I am fine, it is more head hunger for me.  My mind keeps telling me I  want  I want,  But  I know  My new tummy   does not,  Not  at  this  point  So  I  drink  and  forget about.  LOL

I most certainly do get hungry.  I am taking Prilosec 1/day but I'm going to see if I can get a Rx for a stronger dose or maybe a different kind.

It isn't head hunger because I don't really have a desire to eat .. I have a desire to loose weight, but my stomach just wont stop nagging at me.  It's not as bad as before surgery but it is definitely there and it is irritating.  I wanted so bad to not feel hungry anymore :(

Did you have hunger post-op?
I am 9 days post-op and I have NOT been hungry at all, head hunger a little when I smell or see food I think I want it but I don't feel the growling, knawing feeling of real hunger, it's all gone so far.  I feel very lucky.

I am 19 months post-op and still do not have true belly growling hunger. I struggle with head hunger daily. I don't feel the need to eat on a daily basis...I still force myself.

Yes.  My first bout of vomiting occurred b/c my stomach growled.  That was a few hours after surgery.  It went away after a day or so.  Now (4 weeks out), I have what I think of as "hunger cues" that are different than the stomach growling that I used to experience.  Sometimes I feel "empty", which I assume means that my stomach and large intestines have emptied out and whatever I had last has moved on to my lower intestines.  No matter how long I go without eating, I never have stomach growling.  But that could return as I'm still early in my recovery.
