Changed my goal weight.

Several months ago I thought about what my goal weight would be.  Initially I put it at 185, which puts me just inside of the healthy BMI range.  Later, I changed it to 160 because i didn't want to "short change" myself in the weight loss area.  Now, I have changed it back.  I am not in this to be thin to look better- it is all about the health for me.  I am surprised at how many sizes I have lost already, and actually I am already at the size that I set as my "if I am any bigger than this size when the process is done I will be disappointed, but this size or smaller makes it worth it:".  I have no doubt that I will drop a few more sizes before this is said and done.

I just think now that the 160 target set is not realistic.  I did not take into consideration the weight of the extra skin, and how much sizes drop so quickly.   Thus, I switched the goal weight back to 185.  If I get there and decide that I indeed need to shed more, then I will adjust at that point.

I've questioned my goal weight also. My surgeon hasn't given her input yet, but I plan to ask in the hospital. I set mine at 140. To be at normal BMI 133 is highest I can weigh but, smallest I have gotten or remember is 147 & I was a size 10/12. Idk if I will get smaller than that & don't want  to set myself up for disappointment.

In the same boat here :)
My goal was initially 180, but when I hit that, I changed it to 170.
I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, and if I lose more, great!!  If not, I am happy in my size 10 :)
(started at size 24.)
I am *thrilled* to be a size 10.  I wasn't even a 10 in high school!  And I love how I look in my clothes.  (out of them is another story, however!  but I'll take my war wounds (extra skin) happily and proudly)

Yep, I am in the same situation. I changed my goal 2 weeks ago and have been having second thoughts. I am 57 and the more I lose the older I am looking. I am in a size 10 now (never dreamed I would be a 10) and am very comfortable with this size. I have lost 1.5" in height over time for whatever reason and that puts my BMI pretty low.
I think I will leave my goal as it is set right now and just see what happens. I will keep doing what I have been. I know that I have already met my personal goal... I just don't like not being "overweight" according to my BMI.

"goal weight" is good to have on a limited basis..

many surgeons do not even give a goal weight for their patients.

what i mean is, its nice to aim for a certain number, and to make that number realistic. not everyone is able to ever attain a weight of 125 pounds.

BUT, dont focus on that number too much. Keep following your plan and working hard and you never know, you may surpass that. I never thought I would be able to get under 160 pounds, size 12. As a thinner adult in highschool, that was pretty much my lowest attainable weight.

But as you lose, things change, you do lose some muscle mass. So what I thought had to stop at 160 ended up being 135 to 140, size 6-8.

The point is, as you get closer to your goals or pass them, adjust them. And you are right, it really is about being healthy and happy, not about the pants size or number on the scale.

My "goal" is 160 but I saw my surgeon last week for my six-month follow-up and he thinks 160 is too thin. I'm at 184 now and feel good, but I still want to lose more. That being said, I am very happy where I am and wouldn't be terribly upset if I stayed here. I am 5'8" tall and am currently wearing a size 12 tall in pants.

 Thanks for posting Crystal-

You are about the weight I set for my goal, and I am 6'2''.  Makes me think now that I am at about the right target- if you are a 12 at your height that would likely put me at a 10 or 8, and that seems pretty unrealistic for my height.  Then again, I was a 12 back when I was thin and given the gains in vanity sizing perhaps that will end up being about right.

The way I chose 160 is that was the highest weight that put me in a normal BMI range. However, that isn't accounting for excess skin, so maybe 170 is more what I should be shooting for.

I will be happy with wherever my body decides it's most comfortable. I'm just thrilled to be below 200, frankly.  :-)

My goal is 180, and my perfect range BMI wise is 140. I am 5'4 but still think 140 is way to small. My Surgeon thinks 180 is unrealistic and that I will in the low twos. I am DETERMINED to prove him wrong!

When I was 12 years old I starved myself for a summer and remember I got down to 165 pounds.  I was wearing a size 7/8 jeans.  I was probably a few inches shorter than I am now.  So I set my goal weight to 185 pounds.  Even though that would put my BMI at 30 and I would still be consdiered overweight.  On my own, in my adult years, the lowest I've been able to go is 195-200 pounds.  I was in a size 10 jeans at that weight.  So anything under 195 is just fine with me.  If I end up losing more and get under 185, I guess that's okay too.  But I would hate to lose too much and look sickly- which I think my "ideal body weight" of 135 pounds would be way too thin.  I say everyone needs to set their own goal and make it whatever feels right for you.

Oddly enough, my surgeon, without looking at my weight, told me he didn't follow the charts.  He said "Looking at you I would say you should probably lose about 60 pounds"- which would have put me at 190 pounds- so I knew right then he had a good eye :)
