So I thought that the acid in tomatoes would make them a no-no post op.  But I see many people have tomato soup and on the eggface website she has a mushie that sounds super yummy with marinara sauce.  So what's up are tomatoes ok?

Everyone reacts different the only way youll know forsure is if you try for your self. My experience was ok no big issues but then again I have no issues with any acid reflux I dont even take the prescribed medications because I dont think I need it.

I posed that same question to my bariatric nurse. She said tomatoes were ok. The no acid was referring to lemons, oranges, etc.

I eat the grape tomatoes all the time. The one thing my drs office said is to be careful and dont forget that they are a FRUIT so there is more sugar in them

I love tomatoes, and used to like ketchup, now that bothers me but bbq sauce is ok. Also used to have franks red hot on everything, now spicy isnt so good either. Maybe some day it will be good again, ut you are changed inside for the rest of your life and like averyone says we are all different and we have some similiar experiences, but no two are the same.

All you can do is try. life is an experience never to be repeated so live it.

Been eating the little cherry tomatoes since 5 weeks post op, yummy with a few drops of lite italian dressing=)  I usually have 2 of them after I eat my chicken barbeque at dinnertime.  I have/had acid reflux disease before surgery and still take my meds for it but haven't had ANY HEARTBURN issues since surgery.  I take dexilant.

Anything tomato-y or OJ burned the heck out of my staple line for the first couple of weeks.  Beyond that, it was no problem.
