Just wondering how many people were given this post op.  For those who don't know it is a medication that reduces your chance of needing your gall bladder removed to 2-3%.

It is not common practice for my surgeon to give it, but I requested and received it.  Had I not read about it in Dr. Cirangle's post-op stuff I never would have known about it.

Yes. I was actually put on it as a pre-op.

No.  I asked my surgeon about it and he said he does not prescribe it to his patients.  His reason was that some recent statistics show there is not a significant difference between WLS patients and non-WLS patients and their incidence of gallbladder issues.  Sorry - I don't have a source for the stats.

I read up on it pre-op and requested it. My Dr had no issues RXing it as he has used successfully it to dissolve pre-existing stones in patients that could not/would not undergo surgery, so he was very familiar with it and thought it was a great idea. No side effects for me, took it for 8mo.

My program does it for the first 6 months after surgery.  It was specifically for reducing the complications of gall stone formation with rapid weight loss.

Yes, put on it pre op.  I don't take it and neither does my husband.  We have a couple month supply here just being wasted.  Too bad- it is worth several hundred dollars.  I wish there was a way to legally donate it.

Yes if you still have a gallbladder because it helps stop the formation of gallstones which can be caused by rapid weight loss.
